Hazbin Hotel / Helluva Boss Thread - Now a Griefing Thread

Mostly the CANCEL HER weirdos main motivation seems to be because she's like, a sort of Laci Green-ish tier feminist and to a lot of the short-circuiting Tumblr brains and Twitter freaks and others that's as good as being a Nazi. You also have some people from 4chan's /co/ who seem to have grudges against this project.

I do love that there are many people in Japan excited for Hazbin Hotel and in the USA we have the SJW wing of American nuttery spawning a wave of NPCs to cancel Vivziepop every week, furry avatars ready to swarm into the timelines and posts and threads of people who so much as mention the creator much less display any enthusiasm or interest in the project and screech about how "Vivziepop" is a Nazi propagandist.

My own personal opinion is that while not entirely my cuppa, Hazbin Hotel looks good. I would have been somewhat condescending towards it a decade ago, now I can appreciate the 2000s Deviantart fangirl look and think it's far more honest and technical than the lame default modern 'cartooning' style you see a lot of people adopt.

The animation is good but expensive, the creators are trying to pitch this series to either Netflix -a streaming device that cancels series when their animators try to unionize and - or adult swim.

Considering Adult Swim aired a Tigtone pilot I could potentially see them picking up something like this. It also looks custom tailored for mass appeal; but I'm not certain how well Vivzie would hold up under the pressure of producing something for a major network.

That's my concern too. This strikes me as a passion project so what happens when it becomes a job for people who may or may not be accustomed to the harsh working demands of professional animation?

Edit: Also Tbf though that Tigtone pilot was fucking beautiful in its own right. "They will even fight snakes, Tigtone....They will even fight snakes..."

I'm a sincere fan, tbh, if only that it made the slightest goddamn effort.
Some bitch crowdfunded an independent animation project that was actually goddamn finished, was released more or less when they said it would be, and delivered the promised length and quality it claimed to offer. It lacks a lot of polish, but was clearly artist-driven rather than the soulless corporate grind bullshit, and has a lot of the old Newgrounds and YouTube alumni as VA's.

If we're being real, I'll take this shit over yet another paint-by-numbers hackjob. It's incredibly rare for something auteur-driven to see the light of day at this point. It's messy as hell, no question, but it's got a little soul in it and is the result of someone's creativity, as opposed to the result of a team of CalArts grads trying to make "unnamed popular animation project".

The fact that the usual pack of assholes have determined it as problematic is all the confirmation I need that it's worth a look. I got no beef with this, friends. Good on them for funding an independent thing and then doing it.

Finally got to sit down and watch it, and while it’s definitely not perfect, it has my attention. The plot and characters are interesting, and that’s essentially what you want in a pilot: something interesting enough that you want to see more, despite its flaws. Those can be touched up once the show gets picked up and funded, getting feedback from viewers, ect. So I didn’t love it, but I liked it and want to see where it goes. And I consider that a win for the show.

This show looks and feels like Beetlejuice except everyone is some fragment of the OG Juice Man. It needs more episodes, much like Futurama the characters need to develop more as time goes along. When Futurama started everyone was just different parts of existing simpsons characters and by the end of the series they were their own unique characters.

Internet screeching is going to push them to do an episode where they rehabilitate Hitler.

That... actually wasn't all that bad. I enjoyed it for the most part, and I liked the spread of vulgarity. The anchorwoman was hilarious, and I did like the radio man. Did seem a little fast, but my guess is it would slow down as an actual show. I don't mind the color scheme, but I also don't mind a lot of color so that's just me.

Here's a link to someone saying why they don't like it. He censors himself quite a bit, but he also approaches the review from a pretty balanced perspective (he thinks people freaking out about racism and homophobia is stupid).

One thing that I disagree with him on is that he says the adult humor is awkward with some of the more childish gags (people getting smashed by rocks or other objects). The slapstick gags just filled some space, and I don't think anything was taken away. There are two/three right at the start and its just to show how shitty Hell is.

All in all I'd be interested in seeing more. Fills a similar niche to that newer Harley Quinn cartoon they're working on.

I'm with you. I'm looking forward to more. It's a rough gem but it can be polished into something stellar. It's nice seeing a passion project coming to fruition.

I watched it expecting nothing and was... not dissapointed, but I didn't love it.

The plot is confusing and the only way to fully get it is by reading the wiki or by being a long time fan, there are visual clues for understanding it all over the episode but the animation but everything goes way too damn fast.
The songs were really fucking annoying too.

I really wanted to like it but it made my eyes hurt. I showed it to my husband, who is a complete normie and he couldn't even finish the episode.

And the saddest part is that, while the story was interesting, they clearly don't know were to put the focus.

Regardless, the pilot is very popular and maybe one of the desired networks will pick it, but they're definitely going to ask Vivie to change stuff for it to work and legend has it she doesn't taking criticism well.

Despite the show's popularity, it's very unlikely Hazbin Hotel will get picked up by anyone in its current form.

Adult Swim, like all producers of adult animation, has historically been extremely conservative when it comes to the size of their shows' budgets, especially so, considering they're a late-night programming block whose viewerbase is already relatively small and shrinking as more people cut the cord. So what you get are shows that excessively cut corners and limit any actual animation like ATHF, Tigtone and The Venture Bros., while compensating with their writing. Adult Swim isn't going to allocate an amount of capital far more massive than usual for Hazbin Hotel unless there's a massive ROI, it would just be wasting money.

Netflix is a ponzi-scheme, a byproduct of the current stock market bubble. They burn more cash than they make in profit, and even with new investors and the massive amounts of debt they get themselves into, they have ever-growing content obligations they have to meet lest the illusion of them being remotely profitable shatter, so they favor a quantity-over-quality approach when it comes to their content, meaning a glut of low budget trash. Again, what incentive would there be for Netflix to pick up Hazbin Hotel, when they've got their hands tied financially, and a lot of that show's fanbase likely already has Netflix accounts?

The only way Hazbin Hotel could become a commercially viable full-fledged series without any downgrades or corner cutting would be if it was sold on a transactional model, like how video games are sold. The question is, is it popular enough that enough people would be willing to spend $10, $20, or even $30 for, let's say, a single season? Doubtful. Consumers today seethe at the balkanization of streaming services - having to spend more than $9.99 for a section of the library of content that used to come with the full package. They're addicted to the buffet content model. Having to pay for just a single piece is out of the question. But balkanization is the direction the industry's headed. And when the stock market crashes and Netflix loses all credibility, the trend will only accelerate as the buffet-model of content proves unsustainable. Perhaps then, Hazbin Hotel and other high production value works like it will have a chance of being fully realized.

I'm not a fan of the designs which take me back to late 200Xish DeviantArt trends, but they really do give a shit about their project and everything is being written in advance so good on them. If they can keep at a relatively consistent schedule and hold a fanbase I can't see this falling apart anytime soon, cancel culture interference or otherwise.

Although, to be fair... As much as I'm not even a fan of this thing (whether it's the writing quality and/or the character designs.)... This guy and his crtique just comes off like a fucking prude, honestly. I bet this guy secretly thrives on mediocre BS like The Loud House, too.

To be fair, my negative opinion towards this show - mainly due to its creator working on Zoophobia, which is just about the worst web-comic I've ever read, admittedly.

Mark my words - it will become highly popular, whether you like it or not, regardless. Expect much cancer to come outta this show like how a certain Horse show generated over this now passing decade - simple as that.

Hopefully, it'll become less crappy, writing quality wise - otherwise, I don't see myself keeping up with it. I definitely ain't sold on most of the character designs, so that's major points against it, in my book - although I can respect this much: at least you can tell (whether you like it or not) that EFFORT went into how it's actually drawn and/or moves!

Agree Viviepop's character designs always seem so cluttered and busy I was sure that it was going to make animating them look very clunky and stiff, but the animation is actually pretty nice looking for the most part. Any issues I take in regards to the visuals comes more from a few scenes with unfavorable shot composition.
I've never read Vivipop's webcomics or seen anything else she's worked on, but I think this pilot is pretty fun and enjoy most of the characters, definitely something I'll keep an eye out for in the future.

There's *waaaaay* too much pink in it and that's even after toning it down for the pilot. Also nnnot a fan of the songs.

I don't know anything about Viviepop so I just watched it because I like animation products before they're fucked up by being on television. The animation was good! The writing was pretty okay! The pacing was... well I kinda hated it. Also I'll be that asshole and say that the TV anchor lady and Angel Dust's designs are a little way too similar for me.

I'm not sure which cliche I'm getting more irritated at more quickly; the super posh fellow who's actually power incarnate or the scruffy hobo who's actually power incarnate but they don't really put care into their appearance. Alastor's fun, though. I like the snake guy if only because he's not primarily pink and he doesn't have noodle limbs. I also liked some of the jokes and the ease of language; it didn't feel forced for edgy points.

Musical numbers aren't good, some of the designs are awful, Voice acting is hit or miss.

That's generally how it is with all cartoon pilots before the overall design and animation changes drastically for the series. They're making the jump straight to webcomic before working on more episodes so there's probably going to be some changes between the two anyway.
