To be fair, Charlie and Vaggie being a couple wasn't planned from the start. Vivzie caved to her gay worshiping coworkers/fans clamoring for it so they didn't seem like a couple in the pilot (I guarantee it'll change going forward). However Zizi said everyone shows different levels of affection so what's the fucking problem? How others show love is none of your business.

Almost any creator has some lolcow tendencies and Vivz is no exception. These tendencies are generally outweighed when you are actually creating stuff worth watching, though, and Vivz definitely is doing that.

There wasn't any shitstorms with merch, especially since all of them sold out in days. Those pinup pins with the girls (and Angel Dust) came close but it was from pearl-clutchers and others going "hurrdurr remember the joke with Loona and fanporn? WELL WHAT ABOUT THIS HYPOCRISY??1!11!!" and it still went nowhere. Vivzie knows who to listen to and it's the ones with money, not just twatter hot takes. That and its admittedly hard to market this kind of show to a production company. Its too colorful to be viewed as an "adult" cartoon, its based in hell which inherently limits its Christian/religious (which is a big deal in the US and non-western foreign markets) audience and its definitely not meant for kids. As much as it bemoans me to say it, the success of a shows like Rick and Morty was the deciding factor for A24 to pick up Hazbin.

I'd attribute the look and quality of "adult cartoons" to a lack of budget. There's a reason a lot of them are dysfunctional family comedies set in mostly realistic environments: It's the cheapest thing to make for the already small demographic that is adults at their TVs. Hazbin Hotel is an anomaly. It's a web project that got massively popular on its own, whose creator rakes in the cash from her patreon and merchandise sales. It's already got a huge following, but whether that following warrants the show getting a large budget remains to be seen. If the show proper will be anything like the pilot they better be expecting a surge in subscribers cause that's a massive budget for one show to have.

Also, you're overestimating the value of the "Christian market" in America, let alone the more devout Christian and Islamic markets in the rest of the world. First, I doubt most Christian Americans are devout enough to mind a show like Hazbin, considering how cartoony it is, and the ones who are are in the minority, not to mention Hollywood has had their focus shifted to liberals for a decade. Hell, just look at the seasons of Rick and Morty which have liberal-pandering content.

Second, there is far more liberal American media that gets published worldwide that, even when censored in the aforementioned foreign markets, can still turn a profit. And in the rare cases where they do get banned, it's not a huge loss since no one's going to lament not turning profits in Saudi Arabia or Russia. In any case, no one knows for sure how the distribution of Hazbin will play out or how it will be received internationally since, again, it's still an anomaly.

Also, it's almost submerged, but there is a Christian and even specifically Catholic message to the show about universal redemption and its availability to anyone who seeks it, as much as there is a dialogue with a prosecutor type character (Alastor) against someone who does believe in universal redemption (Charlie).

How does that actually play out? I hope we get to see.

I don't think you quite understand how fucking large the Christian market is with 200 million Christians in America alone and how quickly a large portion of that market will ban programs from their home for being perceived as "anti-Christian".

I also don't think you understand how Islamic and 'moral" countries (central and south America, Russia, Africa, southeast asia, china, etc.) governments will just outright ban programs that depict the kind of content Hazbin is showcasing.

Regardless of how little a loss it is, it is a loss. Executives are usually not going to chance on something like Hazbin when they could pick a clone of family guy that is not banned by these markets and already been shown to be successful.

The streaming boom caused by the devastating over reaction to the pandemic (I refuse to say its the pandemic itself) and the success of edgier adult animated shows like Rick and Morty are the primary reasons this show had any chance to get picked up. I am happy it did as it does have quite a bit of polish and quality not usually seen in animated internet projects, but this is truly a show born from perfect timing.
