Hey guys - I lost my klan hood while oppressing some marginalized people this morning, will I still be allowed at the next neo-nazi meeting?
oh wait, wrong section

anyway -- I'm looking for an HDMI switcher that has
  • 4k on at least one of the channels
  • has flexible Picture-in-picture sizing & positioning (I realize there's going to be a limit)
  • 2x1 is fine, 3x1 would be nice for flexibility but only need 2x1
channel 1 (the 4k) are relatively static graphics so framerate isn't an issue
channel 1 doesn't have (or need) audio, audio swtiching or ARC isn't an issue
channel 2 general purpose PC video -- youtube videos and such (not hardcore gaming)

if channel 3 exists it would just be that "guest" channel for whatever needs to be plugged in ad hoc

I'd like to have some PiP options, more than just "what is this source showing" preview...and a side/by side would be nice, but viewable PiP (taking up maybe 20-25% real estate) would be awesome

I totally ignorant of what's going on these days and the market seems to be segmented into
really cheapo stuff with terrible picture in picture or very high end video production

I'm a day drinker now so I have no idea what you're saying. Try reading a book.
Back in the 90s, tvs had a function called picture in picture. Where you could tune your tv to one channel, then switch to another one and have that first channel play in a small box in a corner. Certain HDMI switchers have this fuctionalilty. OP is wondering what switcher is best.

It still exists in screens if you pay a bit more. I think, maybe they've dropped that, it wouldn't surprise me. My main monitor supports picture-in-picture from different inputs, inputs that stretches across the times from old RCA to DisplayPort and everything in between. Except S-Video, I don't really remember, I'm a gay drinker and so I have no idea what I'm saying. Try riding a cock.

You could use a HD HomeRun device and MPV. You wouldn't have to spend 3 grand for it. $500-800 would be in the ballpark to my est. the GPU is the hardest one to get for cheap currently. You could also do this with a $200 mini pc. A lot of those have dual displays and you could use NVIDIA GameStream or SteamLink. Or just get a small monitor and have it on one side of your TV.

if money is an issue, get one 50-60in 4k tv and then a smaller 1080p tv and put the small one in front of the bigger one. probanly be about 600
