Helicopter Parent Hate Thread

Lawnmower parents are the new bad parents. They want all challenges removed and never want their children to experience failure.
Well, lawnmower parents or bulldozer parents often go along with helicopter parents. In my experience, my mom was a combination of both, as you say later in your post, blaming teachers for my bad grades and not herself.
Helicopter parents were more of a young millennial experience. Now that us millennials are having kids they're letting their kids have too much freedom
I strongly disagree. So many Zoomers have helicopter parents. There was a good video by the YouTuber Gerbert Johnson discussing it.
we had teachers at my children's schools say shit like little Billy was going to "not be able to integrate with society" and was going to be "technologically backwards" if they didn't get to use the Shitbook or Shitpad to work what amount to glorified math worksheets.
The more time I spend in college, the more I realize Richard Stallman was right about modern software; the amount of proprietary garbage like Microsoft Word they wanted me to use is absurd; they would even give me a docx file instead of a PDF. The funny thing is most of their tech is "backwards." I had to take a quiz on tech literacy, and the quiz had questions like "How often do you use MySpace?" or "How often do you listen to music on your iPod?" It would be so much easier just having printed paper and typewriters at this point.
Bonus infuriating helicopter behavior- blames you for not being able to do [insert basic household task here], shits on you and aggressively takes over any time you try to do it.
So true. For example, when I tried to cook, my mom said I couldn't, and then when I tried to drive, she wouldn't let me. Then she keeps saying, "I DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU," even though she won't let me do it myself.

It may just be my community. There's a lot of free-range parenting that has been going on for a long time because my enlightened coevals heard the message that kids were being over-supervised and that was bad. Kids around here are given e-bikes the moment they turn 13 and they all fuck off to do weed that is a million times more potent than what we could scrounge up those days. If you dare inform the parents what you noticed what their kids are doing they hiss at you.
I don't know how parents square ditching school to get wasted on the hill with the expectation that they're getting a full ride scholarship to an Ivy.
