Helium Network discussion - need all the network engineer fags on this site please

Not going to lie, looking at their landing page the fact they say BLOCKCHAIN a lot and tell you WHO uses it, without ever stating very clearly what it's supposed to do or why you should, makes me immediately suspicious. It also involves mining cryptocurrency?

Who knows, it's the people's network and it involves the blockchain. Populism and cryptocurrency are trendy, so clearly you should use it.

It looks like they try to sell it as a new network that nobody has to pay money for. But I don't get a lot of technical information. They use LoRaWAN and hotspots, so to me it looks like they use the existing network and just make you use your home wifi as hotspot for everyone with no encryption. They're not an ISP, they don't use any routing technology or anything, only say you use the hotspot of your IoT devices which will open your home wifi to a shit ton of vulnerabilities or am I just fucking retarded?

It's a scam that is using the crypto scam. It's a scam scam. A double scam. Stay away from it unless you like looking like a fool and whining to people online about how you wasted money and or lost money.

Its basically to provide a low-bandwidth network for IoT devices, ones that need to call out but don't use much bandwidth, with the idea its going to be cheaper than using 3g/4g/5g. Compared to other cryptos at least it has a use case, even though it does seem to be miners making up the majority of the use rather than as an actual network. also IoT devices are fucking gay.

Also you earn less if theres many others with boxes around you, if you're away from everyone else you can earn quite a bit I think.

But alas, all crypto is trash. You think we're gonna spend this amount of energy just to maintain a currency when SHTF?
