The game is phenomenal so far. Atmosphere wise, its practically unmatched, but the sound design and story really are the best parts. As a huge sucker for Norse Mythology, the game is something I always wanted. An excellently executed Norse Horror game. Gameplay wise, its a little lacking but still pretty damn fun (Kinda Soulsish)

Though I really don't know whose going to be the ones to attack it, the left (It has some...really dark themes without spoiling much) or the right (A huge theme is mental illness, though it's not preachy about it) Maybe both?

games have had permadeath since forever. haven't they played Zork or something? Nier uses it as an ending, and rogue-likes are everywhere and permadeath is a key part of the genre. Rogue Legacy, Spelunky, FTL, X-Com (which has a difficulty that allows a single save), Fire Emblem, and many others that have it as a selectable "iron man" mode.

sounds like some people just need to git gud.
Reason they may be complaining about it is due to not playing much games that have permadeath or the modes that make use of it. While permadeath can end up being a cheap option, it's not like they are being prevented from copying the save files and learning to play better.

lol it's just vidya niggas calm down
Unfortunately, their tism demands they bitch about a vidya gaem. They must appeal to the inner need in being salty over it.

lol

While searching for permadeath salt from yesterday I also found someone on tumblr who's salty about the protagonist of the game being white and having dreads, because of course.

It won't be surprising if this person knew jack shit about Celts and think Europeans only had nicely groomed hair.

They should've made the permadeath a real thing, and then had a DLC to get rid of it.

>and it was one ethnic group amongst MANY of ancient Europe.
>The more multiculturalism the more worthless every culture is.
:story: HAHA my sides
Also, I'm not an anthropologist but I bet that the proportion of traditional cultures/tribes/civs that didn't practiced dreadlock hair compared to those who did was far greater in Africa than Europe if just by number of them.
More or less. African Americans wearing dreadlocks has more to do with Rastafarians completely misunderstanding something from Ezekial.

TFW the permadeath is fake and their will be no great harvest of tears and rage. :(

Long white people hair is super hard to model in a way that doesn't look stupid chew up clock cycles. There's even a special hardware-dependent graphics setting for Geralt's hair in Witcher 3, IIRC. It was an NVIDIA thing, I think. And it looked stupid and chewed up clock cycles.

Dreads are a way around that. Very short hair is another. It's why you see so much of both in video games. Never ascribe to cultural insensitivity what you can safely put down to technical limitations.

Oh, hey, you want a cultural kick in the balls? Early tribal white people are always shown with shit all over their faces, like they can't master the basic grooming that animals perform. We don't show ancient Egyptians or Chinese or Africans with shit all over their faces, just primitive white people. Even though some of the most ancient artifacts we've found in Europe are bone combs - nope, primitive white people are filthy and have ratty uncombed hair. Why dat?

they should make a permadeath option in the game so that actually becomes a thing. that'd be interesting.

Surprise assholes,

Hellblade is based on celtic and norse mytholgy and the fucking celts had DREADS.

Like the whole thing so far is really really fucking Norse. Like. Super. Norse. Do these people not understand history? Vikings had locs and dreads. And newflash, no country OWNS matted hair.

This shit needs to stop.

Even with the permadeath being fake, I hope someone on PC finds a way to actually mod that feature in since I think it's a great idea!

Most of the peeps getting salty on twitter seem to be the tumblr types who were buying the game to ~support mental illness~ or whatever and were expecting it to be an uber-casual experience, which is obviously contradicted by the """permadeath""". The people salty on Steam seem to be ones that weren't mad about the permadeath, but because they went in expecting the game to be Dark Souls: Viking Edition and then getting salty when they realized it was more story driven.

So do I. I think it is a great idea. I have the game and I've been having a go at it. It's not easy to get into because they have done their homework, clearly, about schizophrenia, and it's an audience alienating premises, playing a character who actually hears voices in her head and literally has to battle demons.

I think the Viking stuff is too pronounced myself; Senua's supposed to be a Celt? I think if she'd had to face Cernunnos and Gobanno and Lugus and Epona it would be far more original because Celtic mythology is way undersubscribed.

Thing with dreads is, if you have long hair and don't wash it, because, for instance, you're an 8th century Celtic she-warrior and are constantly tromping through muddy fields on campaign, it forms into dreads of its own volition, and then it's just easier to keep them in dreads and tie it up.
