I'm pro opsec and that's good advice but it might be far less relevant in the near future. Recent studies have indicated LLMs are successful about 60% of the time when asked to dox someone based off a username because they are able to scrap databases and datasets not avaliable on the public net.

Enjoy your cyberpunk dystopia internet child.
Unless LLMs have access to databases they absolutely should not, like banking and credit card info, government databases, and ISP account holder info, then there's no way they can doxx someone with good OPSEC. Sure, analyzing posting habits and metadata might be able to track the same user across multiple sites posting under different aliases and using different e-mails, but if they don't willingly give out their real name or other PII on those sites, then the LLM will not be able to doxx them.

I don't know why the entire internet likes to pretend that every employee out there is some shriveled, put-upon wagie working with a guillotine two inches from their neck and five shitskins constantly on deck to replace them at the slightest whiff of trouble or inconvenience, but it's not true. If it is true in your case, get a better job; they're attainable.
It's a ponzi scheme to push people into informational economics, and is a projection of informational employment positions. They're the shriveled up ones at death's door just waiting to be replaced.

I don't buy the guy's story that he got fired from his work and banned from his horse sanctuary over this. I think he got lots of shit for his post, and used the "got fired" post to get sympathy before he DFE'd.

Getting banned from a horse sanctuary because some retards on the Internet sperged out just seems incredibly far fetched. I'd assume they'd lie and say he was a pedophile or some shit, but it just seems weird it happened so quickly. And generally firings for wrongthink are because there's a mix of email brigading and social media shitstorming, but I'm not seeing the latter.

This incident is certainly a good example of why one should keep their Internet life separate from their real life because it could happen, but I think in this soecific situation the dude is making shit up for sympathy.

If your workplace gets bombarded with hundreds of emails saying you're a Nazi and threatening to bomb/shoot up the place your corpo will absolutely fire you just to make the headache go away.

It's a common ANTIFA terror tactic they use to unperson/debank people they don't like.

It's curious that he's supposedly doxed and we know there's a horse sanctuary involved(there can't be that many of these nationwide, right?) but don't know the employer. Once fired, why wouldn't you say "man, fuck Scholastic Inc. for firing me, I don't work in a department that front-faces kids and no one was harassing any, they had no right to fire me from accounting" or whatever. It's not like keeping quiet about the employer is going to improve your chances of getting hired back, or really impact future interviews.

That's assuming the guy is American and subject to American employment law. It's not the same everywhere. Germany actually has the legal right for employees to do whatever they want off the clock (besides actual crime ofc), and companies are legally not allowed to pester them with emails/phone calls/bring it up in a review etc. But I bet a good percentage of this site would consider that retarded leftist libtard faggotry if we were talking about it in a different context.
I mean there's a reason why you expect Americans to innovate, while you expect a German to make a really accurate watch.

This has to be one of the most retarded things I've read on reddit and I have read polycule and tranny shit on the reg in the general threads. What is this mental illness? Is it catalogued yet? I feel like it's new, overreacting this much over nothing has to be a new thing.

I can answer this. It's a big question that has a big answer though. You guys are probably gonna crucify me for this given this is the Games forum lol

It goes back even farther than this, but you can start at Gamer Gate where gamers decided that they were a demographic that were being oppressed. The mental gymnastics here to justify this are baked in at multiple levels, of which Gamer Gate is just one. Because a harassment campaign for "ethics in game journalism" when anyone who ever read a videogame review since the birth of the industry knows that paying for reviews was something that always has happened, but "gamers" specifically had to pick a woman who made a game about depression because gamers resent women who have sex (because they don't). (If you want to reply to this comment to explain what GG really was, I genuinely don't care.)

I've personally found this is the only idea I have that's been controversial on here and Reddit, which really only entrenches this idea for me. When you bring this up, even Reddiots send you DMs telling you to KYS; you know you're onto something. But the silver lining is that once you understand why people identify as gamers, it gets really easy to twist the knife when bullying them. it's also why Steve Bannon was able to use gamers as a tool and align them with the alt-right by platforming Gamer Gate on Breitbart. (Multiple people who worked with Bannon said he believed Gamergate showed the political potential of young, online, alienated men that could be used to mobilize a political base.)

Men are socialized to define their worth through performance (skills, wins, measurable success). Videogames give people an outlet for that, even though it's all made up shit on a screen. If you're a NEET or underemployed-NEET adjacent, being “a gamer” feels like a place where you can win and prove value. For a lot of guys, gaming is the first or only place they felt accepted in a peer group. “Gamer” becomes shorthand for tribe membership, especially for men who struggle socially outside of games. It doesn't help that in the cultural zeitgeist it's popular to shame men for existing or being even remotely jocular. That's a post for another time. But my point here being a lot of men just get pushed into gaming because there is nowhere else to go. Or it's just the easiest, most friction-less solution.

These people literally invest more time in gaming, and participating in gaming related actives (like posting on Helldiver Reddit) than they do ANYTHING else. Over time, being a gamer feels more real than their offline persona because it’s where they’ve invested thousands of hours and dollars. There's also the cognitive dissonance of having to face that everything you have in your life is nothing. It's easier to spend another day digging yourself another foot deeper in your nothing-pit, than it is to say "today's the day I admit I wasted the best years of my life playing with toys".

TL;DR to answer your question: That all culminates into an identity that feels more real than anything else they have going on IRL. Yes, it's exactly as pathetic as it sounds. That's why when you "criticize" a game, you actually criticize them. Their literal ego is tied up in a fucking toy. Gaming is their primary identity anchor, any threat to that identity feels existential. That's how you end up justifying ruining someone's life over making a good faith donation.

It's genuinely not all that different from Chris Chan when he throws temper tantrums over changes in intellectual property that he literally identifies with.

This game wasn't really fun for ages. Of course it had only the loonies remaining that making this game their whole personality. Theres a whole subculture of people that define themselves by nothing but beating hard games and defending the companies behind them that is equally as autistic as the speedrunners. I can still remember how people actually defended the flying bugs (the small ones) killing you instantly when their dead corpse just merely grazed you. Utterly insane people, and that's so many gamers nowadays.

The fact that people are so gung-ho to just dox you over any little thing is a big reason why I don't support online ID and giving companies pics of your face. It would just make it easier

I am tired of people playing a game for only a few hours constantly saying something is too hard when I know for a fact that players can consistently clear it with limited resources, low tier equipment, doing it solo, all kinds of self imposed challenges. The reality is that people like this just like to give up and complain when any level of mastery is required of them.
The problems people have aren't with the game simply being too hard for them because le skillz.

The reason people wanted Arrowhead to play the game wasn't to prove their gamer cred or show how overly difficult the game is, it was to force them to actually see what playing on the high difficulties is like with all of the bizarre balance changes and glitches they refuse to address or fix actually feels like, because it's been made clear with literally every update of this game that they do not playtest this shit before releasing it. At all.

This game used to be over 120 gigs big and Arrowhead refused to look into making it smaller because "hinga dinga durgen there's no evidence-a we-a can make it smooler", then a year and a half after launch a bunch of internet anons told them that they didn't have to duplicate literally every file in the game a hundred times to help people still using SSDs. The devs then looked into it and discovered that, oh fuck, they're right.

Now the game is just over 20 gigs after they cut the useless bloat. The community had to tell these devs over and over again for months on end how to make the game smaller and they refused to even check if they could until like 5 month ago. These devs clearly need to be nudged in the right direction for shit to get done.

They're clearly not hanging out on the difficulties where the arbitrary number changes they make actually makes a difference and that creates a disconnect between what the players are dealing with and what the devs think is best. The game's CEO actually tried to do part of the challenge himself before the doxing situation, and even he noticed some things weren't very fun and should probably be tweaked. It's clearly an issue with the devs at this point.

Bullshit invisible explosions, buggy enemy corpses making you get stuck in the geometry, voteless blobs phasing through the ground and killing you by tickling your foot, 500 Vox engines spawning out of nowhere and raping you for half the match, half the weapons being borderline useless on any difficulty above 5 or getting nerfed out of nowhere, ragdolling every 5 seconds, the stratagem/respawn beams not matching where they actually fall, the drop pods being locked in place for no reason, and about a million other issues are nigh omnipresent in this game and the devs clearly aren't understanding that from just reading the surveys. Shit needs to be fixed.

Gonna go out on a limb and say the devs super milquetoast "response" is fishy as fuck and I vehemently don't agree with the idiots on the web going "that's not their responsibility."

Yes the fuck it is. That's your consumerbase. Those are the people representing your fucking product. Their behavior and actions are a direct reflection of the type of community you are willing to cultivate in your product and consumers.

Want to know why Dota and League and Overwatch aren't rhe juggernauts they once were? Because, at least to some degree, people got sick of the communitys behavior and left, and the reputation associated with those products was so radioactive that you completely cut yourself off from introducing new blood into the system.

I'll be the first to stand up for gatekeeping. I'll be the first to say normies ruin everything and you shouldn't cater to the lowest common denominator of dipshit and alienate your oldschool/hardcore fans. But the fact that Arrowhead refuses to say anything about this strikes me as odd. Either they're trying to do their own investigation and find out if this guy is full of shit (which is entirely possible) or they're entirely okay with this behavior and want to keep their echo chamber as that.

From a pure business standpoint the bad press behind this is suicide. No company, gaming or otherwise would be this okay with a story like this blowing up to the mainstream.

I understand you can't entertain every stupid challenge or callout from the community, but I cant help but wonder their strategy in letting this shitstorm fester this much.

The amount of money and good press they would've garnered by ridiculing this doxxing bullshit and then streaming the challenge on Twitch or something is insane.

The only things that makes sense is if they think or have proof this is all fake and gay. It's the only angle that makes any reasonable sense.

So they doxxed this guy and got him fired from his job… was it ever explained how they got him fired? Did they call his employer and say he raped kids or something? Or did they tell his employer he was bullying the soydevs of their faggot game?

Instead of choosing to purge the community and the subhuman reddit jannies running the subreddit, she decided to just stand by and do nothing besides giving her "thoughts and prayer" to the doxed player. She has mod privileges on the subreddit.

She refuses to do jackshit about the current shitshow happening on the subreddit, only giving "thoughts and feelings" to the doxed victim (despite her having mod privileges)

She's genuinely awful at her job. AWFL at it, even.

There have been zero positive incidents involving this woman in her role as community manager, it's been nothing but fuckups and controversies because she can't control herself and keeps poking bears for no reason.

I shit you not I cannot remember a single time where she's done anything commendable in relation to the community, she's either sitting around not doing anything or girlboss beefing with random fucks on social media.
