I will now refer the thread to the California Courts, where if you are a Helldiver, you agreed to have any issues related to this game resolved.
This is what legal autists call "Material Breach of Contract". Under contract law, you exchange mutual consideration. Usually a product for money. Under the terms both parties agree too. The Terms AT THE POINT OF SALE, are binding. This would under the usual course of things include the requirement for Arbitration instead of court, and all the usual bullshit Sony puts into their contracts to avoid any legal liability.
However, there is a key distinction in a cause of action brought for Material Breach. In this particular case, Sony unilaterally changed the terms of the contract and is now requesting you accept the new terms. You are under no obligation to accept the new terms. In fact, you may refuse the new terms and instead revoke the consideration and request your money. This voids the contract. Including the Arbitration clause because this is not a dispute about the terms of the contract in place. This is a dispute about whether there is a contract AT ALL.
Its incredibly complicated, and guaranteed Sony will try and enforce Arbitration anyway, as well as the provisions requiring that all cases be handled individually instead of as a Class Action. That said however, I smell blood here and its worth pursuing. Don't sign the TOS for the PSN. Demand a refund instead. If a refund is not given, organize. Don't send gay ass letters. Don't petition and make angry tweets. Crowdfund a god damn lawyer and send a Demand Letter and an Evidence Preservation letter.
I guarantee you Sony will pay WAAAAAAY more attention to that then bad reviews on Steam.

I'm going to try and put on my empathy hat... NOT BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT! but because I wish to understand my enemy, that I might vanquish him and all his kind).
I think it's that they have to placate people all day regarding trivial shit and are paid to essentially nod, agree and point at existing statements. This must become draining on the ego especially given the popularity and state of Hell Divers. At some point they see an easy win, some quip, something to restore that ego and snap it up without even thinking. They really should just be replaced by an AI that regurgitates patch notes.
Also a guy like Spitz is probably motivated by having some perceived shred of influence over the game and someone like Baskin is probably motivated by controlling access to something men like/some banning spree feminist power fantasy.
Also the Pilstead guy has more PR sense than any of the idiots he has delegated these responsibilities to.... but again I think it is because he does not wallow in that world day to day and understands the big picture. It's kind of amazing, you just know Spitz is being chewed out and I hope that Baskins was as well.

Deserved spiteful sarcasm aside, sorry to all the PC players who'll be ditching or won't have the chance due to gay laws. I'm sorry to say but I think this dev deserves to have it crash on them though because even aside from being mad over the "balancing" I think they're shitty devs who, like another poster said, made a good game on accident. They all look like reddit faced losers and dangerhairs and are active in discord. They were totally unprepared to actually run a game of this size and don't even make a point to make the community aware of shit like this that will result in thousands of players not even being able to use the game.

Don't forget an obscure, intrusive anti-cheat for a PvE game which was a big red flag. My friends brushed it off as nothing, but I hesitated to buy the game and I'm glad I did.

There a many bits of flavor and the way they will hop into live games and let players try out new shit that makes me think they really give a shit.
They underestimated how wary the playerbase is of sharing PII, of Sony as a company, and their CM's are questionable.

The more I think about it the more I realize how fucked games are. Sony has/had a very successful and profitable game that sold lots of copies. And they've decided to enforce some arbitrary system that doesn't make them any money or at least not directly over selling games.
It's impossible that they didn't know the results and backlash. If your priority isn't selling games what the fuck is it.

That said, the amount of people who are defending this shit or saying "no one complained when X company did it" is fucking depressing. Even worse are those saying "just make an account, it takes two minutes". Sure, just like 2FA for all of those faggy games.
