Why do people not use the grenade pistol to quickly deal with the ships? Fuck off with the eagle strafing runs that do nothing but nearly kill the team.

Shoot the shields down, pop that fucker in the doorway and call it a day. No several minute stratagem cooldowns required and you can save the stratagems for the mass hordes of enemies instead of a squid house. You also have one less spawner to deal with.

I do this frequently, although I’ll use the strafe run to pop the shield if I’m low on ammo. I use strafe pretty liberally and you must be playing with some real specimens if you’re getting fragged by it with any frequency - it’s very precise.

Or snipe the ufos with eruptor or autocannon flak, both can kill the ufos in 3/4 shots from full shield with the new shrapnel behavior.

I've been using the exploding crossbow with reflex sight, it's more maneuverable than the eruptor, and you don't need the eruptor's range in these maps. It's also good for the UFOs but too slow to kill it before the shield regens. So I drop the shield with 1 crossbow mag, then finish it with 1 Commando shot through the door.

Xbow+dagger+Commando is flexible enough to kill everything I need so far, letting you pick almost any orbital/sentry in the other 3 slots and get away with it.

Because the Eagle is cooler to look at.

Im guessing some illuminate kills count as 5-10 or there is just a multiplier of 3-5.
It’s almost certainly the case that some enemies count as multiple kills. This is at least true for the extermination missions where large enemies progress the completion rate more.

It could also be total kayfabe where they look at kill metrics and go, “okay, we’ll pretend the defending force is actually THIS big and extrapolate this many kills from that”.

Or, y’know, it’s all woo woo jingly keys. This game’s run by a GM for a reason.

Its just purely that. Nothing wrong with giving a big number to make it seem insurmountable then adjusting as it goes. It clearly caught a lot of people's attention and got me to play it again for a little while.

I was at an extract in a Megacity today. and we had an Interloper that was circling us for the whole countdown, but for whatever reason, it never actually wound up strafing us. It would just dip down, and then go for a loop at top speed, so none of us were able to get a lock or shoot it down.

I'm wondering if the skyscrapers prevent it from doing its bombing runs if it would collide with them. I definitely thought they were harder to deal with on regular city maps, where they had free reign to bomb you basically everywhere. I thought they'd be much more of a hassle in the Megacities than they have been.

I can count the amount of times ive died to a friendly strafing run in one hand.
Cluster bomb however.......... I dont have the digits for that.

The megacity maps have fucked hollow geometries too.
Those raised platforms seem to be hollow and enemies spawn inside them, including the tripod harvesters...
I had one match where two Interlopers kept strafing the same empty spot over and over again.

I killed a teammate yesterday when my eagle strafing run went more perpendicular than away from me. I figured that the eagle flies through the buildings and so it has to follow the street. It seems the interlopers follow the same rule. Such a cool little attention to detail.

I use the orbital gas and gatling barrage stratagems. For some reason the gas just straight blows up the ships instantly, shield be damned. Gatling barrage takes a bit longer but does the job. You can use them both so often it makes illuminate missions a breeze.
