There's a thing called a demo Chris, I'm sure the PSN has it. It's basically "try before you buy".

Not that I'm trying to stick up for the guy but demo's appear on your psn profile after you've played them, so there's a fair chance that some of the games he's bought but never played are actually just demo's.

Xbox live's been doing it from the start in the mistaken belief that people will get all OCD when they see games in their profile with 0% and buy the game just for the achievements/trophies.

I'm not too sure how true that is. He had the demo for Modnation Racers before he bought the game and I don't remember that appearing on his PSN Profile before he bought the game but maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

Yup, I'm completely wrong! Just checked my psn profile, and no demo's appear under the trophies section. Doh!

My sister's boyfriend is like Chris when it comes to games and movies. Drop money on the new shinies, then forget about them and return to whatever MMO he's been obsessively playing for the past year and a half.

It's been said before that Chris buys shit just to spend money and bask in the satisfaction of having acquired things. Even if he never uses something he's bought, he derives pleasure just from knowing that he owns it - and since the having is what makes him happy, he can never, ever get rid of anything, at least not without a lot of nagging from a potential sweetheart.

Especially when you consider he's got a monthly influx of money and an abundance of free time on his hands. That's a bad combination.

The thing that gets me is the amount of digital purchases he makes. He's not getting anything physical for his collection.

Some people hoard digital media like mp3s or pictures (or vidyagames) instead of tangible objects. It operates on the same principle and arises from the same mental issues as material hoarding, it just takes up less room.

And yeah, boredom+money+hoarding tendencies is a bad, bad combination.

But just as much space on a hard drive.

That's true, but it still uses less space to store a dozen harddrives of hoarded lolcat pictures than a dozen boxes of knickknacks or whatever.

I'm not saying that digital hoarding is better or less harmful than material hoarding, especially if, like Chris, you're spending loads of money on it - just that it takes up less room in your house (which is undoubtedly an excuse digital hoarders use to make themselves feel better about their hoarding).

He bought Sound Shapes and Foosball 2012 for both the PS3 and Vita... and apparently played neither version of either game.

He did the same thing with Zen Pinball 2.

Don't you have to log into PSN, and have your trophies sync, when you need to download game patches or PS3 system updates? He could still be actively avoiding the internet, but have been forced to log on in order to update in order to play something.

I feel like a cad ignoring my PS3. It's been collecting dust since I beat Dishonored. :(

The only way we know if Chris has played is through PSNProfiles which only gets updated once he views or syncs his trophy list, which is a manual thing. He could've been playing for weeks without manually syncing his trophies.

It just shows how little value he places in actual currency. It's just something that appears in his bank account every month.

I'm utterly clueless as to how these things work in the US, but doesn't he have to produce some sort of evidence that he's at least attempted to find meaningful employment? I'm staggered by the fact that somebody can do nothing for years on end and still continue to have money pumped into his account by the government.

^Nope. The SS office decided long ago "he's autistic, let's give him some money", and never bothered to investigate further or follow up to see how his life is going.

The system has a lot of flaws.

He doesn't have the space. Even if he put them on shelves like he did with his older games, he doesn't have room for said shelves.

Nah, pretty sure that's just unemployment. Chris is getting retard-money.

The hilarious (or rage inducing) thing about it is when Chris talks about his potential heartsweet on OkCupid, he demands that they are financially stable. He states that he is doing just fine financially.

good to know that he still has no signs of improving
Soon he'll be out on the stress holding his ps3 and vita begging for money so he can buy the next God of War.

Wrong! he doesn't play popular hardcore games, only casual kiddy stuff. I wonder why.

He'll play hardcore games if they have sex minigames in them.
