The evolution of multi-cellular life, duh

Cambrian explosion and all that fun stuff.
Actually spermatozoa evolved as single-cell organisms that effectively treated other single-cell organisms as eggs. So in that sense the egg not only predates the chicken but arguably multicellular life as well.


In fact it becomes an entirely different philosophical question: is an egg an egg before sperm exists to inseminate it? Was the egg always an egg before there was such a thing as an egg? Or does it only become an egg when sperm comes along to contextualize it as such? Was darkness darkness before there was light to know the difference?
