Hi,

I'm kinda new to D&D and would like to play, but I have no idea where to start, or what to do. I heard there are games played here, and I was wondering if there could be a starter game for beginners/novices?

I hope this sounds okay, I worry I am interfering with other games.

Are there any Friendly Local Tabletop Stores nearby? If so I'd check with them to see if any games are being played. Just let them know you're new to the genre, most are very friendly and good about helping new players.

Mauv sounds like he may run something. I may run something as well.

I once did a real fun homemade D&D game with two of my friends and one more acting as the game master.

It was so surreal! If you drink Dragon Blood, you temporarily transform into a dragon! I used this to become a Rock Dragon and I used my body to smash another Dragon. I also had a Hook Shot and I used it to pull out Dragon Eyes and I kept them as trophies because I was a sick child to collect imaginary body parts.

Long as everyone had fun.

Oh yeah, this was all pen and paper. Home-drawn maps and etc.

I can't understand why people would physically role-play… I know about LARPing, but I wouldn't physically role-play something like Vampire: The Masquerade or Werewolf: The Apocalypse.

The craziest part was when my character was poisoned by little creatures known as "Furries."

There was this kid on the news.
She was roleplaying Vampire: The Masquerade, her group killed her (I think she was spanked to death) and they left the body over a cemetery wall. Reason? Her character died, lol.

Oh god, link!

If Mauv gets a game going I'd be keen to play, time differences allowing.

I used to DM a few years ago, it always helped me get into writing mode.

There is kinda a civil war going on in the DnD world. Those that support 4.0 and those that support 3.5 and/or pathfinder.

a lot of people including myself felt 4.0 strayed way to far away from the spirit of the game.

If you have any questions regarding rules or even good resources online for character creation i would be more then happy to help in anyway i can.

Best advice i can give though, is the group you play with is EVERYTHING. Play with a boring or bad group DnD is hell. Play with people who are fun and creative but not primadonnas. You will have a great time. In dnd there is no I in team.

*Side note* a Good or bad DM can make or break a game

Thank you so much, it would be nice to get your help.

Do you need to buy the handbook and some 20 sided dice to start playing? I've always been intrigued by DnD, but I'm not sure I want to invest in all the stuff if I don't know whether I'll like it.

I'd be up for a game sometime if people were willing to tolerate an utter noob anyway.
