I don't know why people are still holding out hope that the company who made/wrote the Half Life 2 "episodes" and Portal 2 will 1) produce/release Half Life 3, and 2) not completely shit it up.
Half Life 3 is like Santa Clause to these people.
But they're terrible children so Santa never comes.
I however have been a good and proper boy so I've been LOVING Half Life 3 for at least 2 years it truly is the best thing ever.

From what I understand they did pay, just not for the Finale spot. Geoff chooses what gets each spot and apparently the speculated reason for putting highguard last was because it was coming out soon. Weirdly he mightve been trying to help.
This is the best theory I've seen so far, although even in that case it feels like you'd show it off early in the show as a 'coming soon' thing. I don't watch the TGAs but my understanding is the final trailer has always been reserved for a bombshell announcement.

My personal theory about Highguard is that it's a fake game. The trailer looked like AI and no one claiming to be involved with it has done any kind of promo since the reveal.

I'm at the point where I hope it never gets made, because even if it's good (which it probably would be) it couldn't possibly live up to the 20 years of fan-generated hype.

What game do people think Highguard took the slot from then?
While it could've been HL3, since a similar thing happened with Alyx, I'm not holding my breath. as far as anyone should be concerned it at this point there is legitimate proof HL3 is in active development, and that's good enough for me.

This guy could also be pulling this stuff out of his butt.

First game that comes to mind for what could have been the big slot is Elder Scrolls VI.

It makes sense too with Bethesda being incompetent to the highest degree, to fail to deliver a working trailer for the game awards would be par for the course.

Gonna be funny to watch whoever was supposed to have the slot though as it'll be another nail in the coffin for AAA slop producers. Milk now with Highguard and milk later with whatever was supposed to be in its place.

hot take: this game is going to be a banger, if it actually releases, which I am doubting now that it will lol.

1 week. No news. I hope the devs died while making this abortion.
Probably expected a warmer reception than what they got so they are trying to keep their heads down. However, if they are so proud of their retarded game maybe they could stand by it; we all know though they would never have the conviction to actually do that like the rest of the tranny faggots on their side.

Lol. Lmao, even.

There's lots of pushback in the comments:

Quick, list a few Concord-likes, for cataloguing purposes.
How are we classifying this, just dead live service games? Because if so I can give you
  • Anthem
  • Marvel's Avengers
  • Babylon's Fall
  • The Crew
  • Evolve
  • X Defiant
  • Lawbreakers
  • Multiversus
  • Gundam Evolution
  • Battleborn
These are still technically playable but may as well be dead
  • Redfall
  • Bleeding Edge
  • Suicide Squad
  • Foamstars
This is not an exhaustive list, just what I could think of off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think of half a dozen more as soon as I post this.

I think to be a concord-like, it needs a few more specific things:
1: It must be a game which the corporation(s) behind it believe is likely to be a smash hit, and give it a high position in marketing as a result.
2: Despite (1), it is immediately panned or written off at the moment of it's announcement by the larger audience, and flops immediately on release.
3: Ideally, it is a game that is online or some sort of live service offering. Something that will only be playable long term if it gets mass appeal.
4: The reason for flopping is the game obviously being made by a group that's out of touch with the wider gaming market, ideally due to being some combination of:
-4a: Being behind market trends, such as a late arrival to it's genre, when said genre is falling out of favor.
-4b: Seeming to be self-evidently derivative of previous offerings it will compete with.
-4c: Having an outdated cultural outlook, particularly tropes associated with negative aspects of early 2020's pop culture (millenial humour, deliberate uglification, virtue signalling taken to obnoxious or overtly hypocritical levels, manchildren stuff).

I'd say the dichotomy between 1 and 2 is the most important. Some suits have to absolutely believe they're working with pure gold, only for it to get shot down in flames the moment the public sees it on release, for it to be a concordlike disaster.

With that rubric, things like Hyenas, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, and Foamstars are the obvious candidates, and historical candidates would be things like Diablo Mobile.

The Developers and likely the Publishers for this have completely given up, I see nothing on this, they aren't spending any money on marketing.
the fucking Arknight Gacha sequel is getting OODLES of ads but this isn't getting fuckin ONE.

"Dead live service games" is too generic, and to make an exhaustive list would take four or five posts. "Funny, deserved, and unceremonious live service deaths" is a little shorter but still not specific enough. "Woke/out-of-touch games falling flat on their faces" is missing the forest for the trees.

This is pretty much spot-on. I would only change the part about marketing on point 1. Concord-likes enjoy every luxury an AAA game could ask for (massive budgets, extremely long dev cycles, big-name studios) except for marketing. In fact a very telling sign of a game being a potential Concord-like is a (perceived) lack of proper marketing relative to budget. I suspect this is because most Concords are extra-officially dead months before launch. The highguard devs refusing even to acknowledge the game exists days before release is hilarious and a sign we have another Concord on our hands.
I would instead say that for a game to be called Concord-like the corporation behind it must consider it paramount and must provide it with resources accordingly.

In short, Concord-likes must feel like Homer's car at all points between concept and first announcement.

Everyone forgets another of CliffyB's other flops, the failed-to-launch battle royale game Radical Heights. It died, after a brief, disastrous playtest, in obscurity.
Boss Key productions is the only studio that has released two consecutive Concords. They have also released nothing but Concords. Congratulations, CliffyB!

It's kind of crazy to realize that there are probably a dozen entries in the "Co op PVPVE shooter with weird fantasy shit that also has incredibly ugly niggers everywhere" genre when there's likely not enough of an interested player base to sustain even one of these things.
