I have no idea why Tencent would have invested money into this bullshit, there isn't even an interesting IP attached to it.
That's because you're approaching it like a gamer and not a businessperson.

Imagine you're given $10,000,000 and told to invest into restaurants with the goal of making a profit back. You don't want to put all of your eggs in one basket, but how much do you know about restaurants? Sometimes a small restaurant explodes (like Sandfall, or Riot, or whatever) and makes a trillion dollars seemingly overnight - so you decide to buy 10 small ones for $1,000,000 each.

How do you vet them? Well, at a point you're just kind of throwing darts at a dart board, but eventually you hear "Hey this Jeff guy who hosts the restaurant awards likes this one" and you go "fuck it, why not" and invest. And it doesn't pan out and you move on, trying moving on to one of your other pile of investments.

It's a shitty metaphor, but Tencent isn't investing in Highguard and then really believing in it - they're blanket investing because it's a volatile market with a rare but huge potential upside. The execs who invested in Highguard couldn't name a single character from it or a single person who works at the studio. It's basically just an expensive lottery ticket.

Every time I see that weird-haired browoid mystery meat dude the Highguard devs decided would be the face of their game I can't help but think they wasted a glorious opportunity to make their game stand out by exaggerating his facial features to make him a gigachad. He's so close and yet so far.

>lightning wielder from Halcyon
>Greco-Roman name highly used in the American South
>some shade of nigger

What did they mean by this? Most greeks aren't that dark, why niggify him? Unless... they're the racists. :)

Why is it so insanely taboo on the internet to be attracted to women?

People use gooner in the same way they use Nazi or incel now.
It's just the same shaming conventional sexuality with an added of "Oh, look at the perv who likes conventionally attractive women. What a fag."

No one wants to look at Nick Avocado, and no one wants to look at Amber Lynn Reid. I don't know why the entire world is pretending otherwise. Angelina Jolie is a mid actress, who might have been in one good movie. But because she is so hot, she's been in pop culture for nearly 30 years.

Goonsquads used to be squads of goons in the old timey sense, then Goonsquad used to mean the EVE Online internet spaceship alliance network. Now I really don't want to know what a goonsquad looks like in the late discord era.

There was also a Goon Squad guild in World of Warcraft that did wacky shenanigans that may be seen as "toxic masculinity" if they were to do those things today.

It's a "Something Awful" thing, which makes me grin with delight seeing their precious term of endearment get turned into (another) pejorative. Fucking proto-SJW's deserve that shame.

Highguard is trying to sell these skins for $9, and the aesthetic of them is another one of those mixing ideas that don't go together:

And they're trying to sell these Owl thingy mounts too, and once again even the mounts are just bland and don't stand out:

The advent of internet videos caused new voices to rise. The change was slow, at first. Some pasty-skinned, bespectacled nerd uploaded a video on castlevania 2. It was blurry as shit, his voice was flat and boring, half his complaints would get laughed out today, and it was decades out of date... but it was done all by himself. A one-man band, at least at first, and it was up and public where anyone could see it. He'd follow it up with different games, week after week, and slowly, people would turn their eyes to him.
Internet [insert topic] reviewers and sleuths in the 1990s to mid 2000s had already gotten their feet in the door and were doing noticeable damage to the old mainstream presses before internet video became viable. Shortly later when the internet video did became viable for average John and Jane Doe to do, it is as you said.

I started to think that they only added mounts, and likely decided to retain absurd map size despite 3v3 format to justify their existence, just to be able to monetize them.
It became absolutely clear by now they've put more effort into planning monetization than designing the actual game. They deserve to fail.

It's all about disenfranchising your typical, traditional gamer, which makes up majority of the customers. It's not a coincidence you hear these things almost exclusively from woke retards and "allies", who views men, especially white, as undesirable.
Everything is part of the bigger effort meant to reshape society, to shame you out of your hobbies and replace you with people they agree with, to ostracize you and make you a minority. That's why they ruin everything, whether intentionally or simply by the sheer nature of their corrosive touch.

It's a psyop in the same vein as 'transwomen are women' or 'healthy at any size' to try and condition you into believing what is self-evidently false.

They think by repeatedly releasing wokeslop games and movies filled with brickfaced, titless women with dyke haircuts you'll eventually be conditioned into liking that as opposed to conventionally beautiful women, because their entire worldview is built on the idea all tastes are socially conditioned (despite the fact that almost every society on earth, no matter how culturally different, hold broadly the same standards for what makes a man or woman attractive).

Fortunately, it's not working, which is why all these properties keep failing miserably.

Has anyone bothered to dive into the lore of this game to try and discover if there's any justification for the bizarrely clashing aesthetics? Even at base level it still looks so silly that some sci-fi fantasy knight is running around with a stock asset AK-47.

You're wrong on that part only, the only thing that they knew about them most likely was some of the names, because the only reason those schmucks got funded (although not a blank cheque) is that some of them were former Respawn. Most of those executives don't play videogames, they only know numbers, so a pitch that says "so and so that made Apex Legends this smash hit multiplayer game that made gazillion dollars, are now making another game in a similar genre" sounds very attractive.

Yeah, if there were going for the steampunk aesthetic, the only thing that matches it was the fucking airship...That only appears in the tutorial

I'm trying to. But going exclusively by the current generation of shorts: We have an unmentioned calamity forcing an unnamed tribe to seek refuge on this island, which his guarded by the eight (or nine?) playable hereos. For some reason, they go through a portal to fight each other in this autistically ritualized combat with no permadeath (seriously, even LoL had an excuse for their bullshit). Second trailer has 6 of them fighting each other, he bear guy is inexplicably an antagonist, this time around. Turns our that it was an means of restoring an floating island and it's implied that some scary shit is happening in the background.

So, yeah. We have no clue of who's backing what or why we should actually care. And since 5 versus 5 calls for ten players with exactly nine characters

And it’ll never work.

Sure, there has been times where fatter people have been seen as more attractive… but there’s other factors people are ignoring. Beauty in people is tied into attraction, which means it ties back into mating instincts. Simply put, a normal brain wants an ideal partner, and will subconsciously search for physical traits that are indicative of good genetics or good mindsets.

Big tits and big hips suggest a body physically suited to raising children, and thus someone that’d make a good wife. This is an extremely arbitrary judgement, but this isn’t necessarily conscious thought that’s happening here. Conversely, being overweight means nothing good - whether it’s poor impulse control or a bad metabolism, it suggests at least one thing is wrong with the person.

This cuts both ways, of course. What makes hot guys hot are traits that indicate good health and good health maintenance. What makes rich guys get lot of dates is that being rich suggests good qualities in terms of being driven and intelligent.

The times when being heavyset was sexy, tend to fall into two groups:
1: the person in question isn’t just a fat woman, but specifically a pregnant one. Fertility idols and the like - this is the caveman instinct not just to seek women to theoretically impregnate but to actually put a bum in the oven.
2: it’s a period of famine or at least a society where food trends scarce, and you can only get fat if you are successful enough to get there. The order’s inverted not because these people are more enlightened or just changed their minds, but because success looks different to today.

This is obviously inherently unfair for people who don’t make the proverbial cut because of those genes, but that’s the reason it exists in the first place - they’re designed to weed out week genes in favour of strong ones. these behaviours are built into just about every living thing that’s ever interacted with it’s mates. And it’s hard to maintain bodies that meet the standards in this day and age, but that’s the whole point - if it was easy, it wouldnt suggest anything to the monkey brain.

no.
being fat (and by extension having a fat wife) was at times a status symbol because it was a signal of wealth.
do not conflate status symbols with actual physical attractiveness. it would be the same mistake as seeing elon musk getting with dozens of hot chicks and concluding "women are really attracted to chubby autists"

This. Being fat at times throughout history meant you could afford to be fat, and was a sign of wealth. But even then that still doesn't apply to every point in history or every culture either. People like to point at Henry VIII as an example but even that was a result of basically ending up handicapped due to physical injury.

But even then, being in shape and conventionally attractive was still superior. You can't take some heavily stylized cave paintings or stone sculptures from some trine in a jungle 1500 years ago and assume the ideal was some 300 pound lardass when it was just an obvious artistic extreme.

fatass here. fat is never an attractive trait on its own for anyone except people with fetishes (like our dear sneeder). not saying fat people cannot be attractive ever, but being fat can deduct points from attractiveness.

the people who keep injecting fat people into shit are so deluded that they just MUST see their own fat selves in media- completely ignoring that people typically don't like looking at fatasses.

I don't know about deluded, but certainly retarded. Any of their shit, be it cripples in scifi settings where it doesn't make sense to be a cripple. A tranny in a fantasy setting where a spell could just make them into the other sex without surgery scars. Having fucking vitiligo as if that's common. It all boils down to one simple thing.

These people have no fucking imagination. They're incapable of engaging with a piece of fiction if they can't see themselves as the main character. Books, movies, TV shows, videogames, comics, it's all the same. I as a man could enjoy the first 2 Alien franchise movies without needing to be Sigourney Weaver to do so. But these people can't watch a John Wick movie because they aren't Keanu Reeves and their brains freak the fuck out seeing someone who isn't as identical to themselves as possible. I'm sure for videogames it's even worse, and for a book without a visual representation of the character, they just assume it's a clone of themselves.

Seriously, take this beyond just having fat people everywhere, and look at the insane people who make entertainment media that repeatedly fails, and you'll see that's the pattern.
