My guess: they knew they had a smelly turd on their hands and knew 10v10 matches would become unplayable due to nobody playing the game
how were the characters balanced for 3v3? 10v10? in milsims its 50v50 and the roles are balanced are equally balanced for 5v5, 10v10, etc.

i don't think this is even a coding issue, these games are most likely competently made from a technical standpoint, games like Highguard don't appeal to people because they're spiritually bankrupt
The spirit of a game is the code. The reason these AAA flops feel so soulless is because they are all made using the same generic engines, same generic textures, same crappy frameworks full of cruft, etc. It's all the same soulless garbage, stiched together in a slightly different way. It technically runs, but that's not the sole purpose of code.

Code is an artful expression. Like clay for a sculptor, or paint for a painter. It transcends logic. It carries the energy of the the artist as a unique, spontaneous expression of the imagination. My shitty little spaghetti algorithm might be technically imperfect, but it's mine. And all that running under the hood adds a lot to the living experience of playing a game. Like reading a book, you are immersing yourself into the dream of the creator.

The reason why games like Factorio and Stardew Valley made assloads of money is because they were coded from scratch by people who were passionate about it. That's the only way to make a game.

EDIT: go boot up vanilla Everquest. Even now, some 30 fuckodd years later, you can still distinctly feel the soul of the game. Walk through the dark woods of Nektulos Forest, or the Butcherblock mountains... all that ambience and experience is from the living dream of the programmers and artists that worked on the game. It still to this day blows the hell out of the modern corporate slop coming out of these studios. I even prefer the graphics.

DBD is a lot like DSP, it's mercilessly mocked for balance in both directions, it's already insanely unbalanced(1v4 & 2v8) and the devs keep trying to act like its simultaneously both a competitive tourney game and a fun party activity where balance shouldn't matter, while also having nebulous design philosophies so vague you can't even tell what a real win is or not.

It's about as Highguard-adjacent as you can get, it's successful but also perpetually teetering on the brink on any given patch and the fanbase itself keeps trying to shake the table

It's impressive that being free to play didn't entice people to even play it as a joke.
I've tried it because I wanted to form my own opinion about it. I also gave it the benefit of the doubt because I've installed Marvel Rivals as a joke only to spend 80 hours actually having fun.
I did the tutorial and I audibly groaned when it told me to mine the fucking rocks. In retrospect I should have uninstalled at this point. I decided to push through nonetheless and by the time I got to finish the tutorial I realized I am bored in such a bizarre way that I haven't felt in decades. I don't even know how to describe that feeling, I guess the closest thing would be interacting with some shitty education software masquerading as a video game, except I wasn't even learning anything worthwhile.
Part of me felt like it's maybe just the way the tutorial is structured and that I'm overreacting due to general negative sentiment on the internet. I queued up for a real match. It didn't make things better, I felt like I'm wasting my time so I quit in the middle of the match and haven't touched the game since. That was all on release day.
Total playtime: 30 minutes. Somehow it felt like at least three times as much. Maybe it's because I've spend more time fucking around with the Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 bullshit than actually playing the game.

Call me late and gay, but this is the third game by the same people that got thrown immediately in the trash right? Is it just nepotism that they keep getting hired and wasting Blackrock's precious shekels?

As far as I can tell, 3v3 will fuck people over if an entire team gets wiped during the "relic-hunting" phase and it heavily stacks the odds against the assaulters during the base raid. All 5v5 does is prolong the base raid and gives the defenders an mild advantage

Mate that's not what I'm saying

What I'm saying is that for 10v10 matches to be a thing there needs to be 20 people playing the game
there were about 100 people playing. so 20 player lobbies arent an issue.

yeah, that sounds miserable.

Yeah it was totally organic that this game got the highlight spot at the event.
Well, the game seems to be organic.
Organic as in its fucking compost already.

imagine being a concord dev and going from "our game will be the biggest IP since star wars" to "our game is considered so insulting that other devs are banning any mentions of it from their platforms" in just 2 years
There are at least two people who worked on both highguard and concord which makes it even worse

This is funny but Marathon needs to flop even harder. In order to make that happen I am taking off the week Marathon releases so I can not play Marathon all week. That'll show'em.

I will say, it IS entirely possible that Dorito Pope just has dogshit taste and actually liked the game.

It's less likely than his paymasters telling him to shill what they're spending money on, but it is a possibility.

>launch a new game
>require TPM 2.0
>require secure boot
>cut your potential playerbase by whatever fraction of gamers don't have these two things
>shit we can't sustain it for more than a month because nobody is playing

legiterally the mostest retardedest shit I ever done did see

Both can be true at once, however I fully subscribe to Geoff giving this a kiss of death because he's a paid shill and people are waking up to his lies. Even sheeple have to wake at some point.
