Apologies, but I don see the difference between "lack of initiative" and "laziness"

But either way, he's lazy because people let him be lazy.
End of story.

Chris used to have some initiative. He drew his comics (at first) without anyone prodding him to do so. Not a great accomplishment, but he did decide to do it and put real time and effort into it. I think he was still somewhat accustom to "work" at the time from being in school. The more time passes, the less initiative he has, and lazier he gets.
He once thought he would be someone someday, but he found it's too much work. He gets paid for doing nothing and has no desire to better himself.

That's the saddest part of it. There are millions of people who would love to get just a small stipend to live on while they pursue some creative aspiration, start a business, travel, etc., and when Chris has the opportunity to do just that, he says "Fuck it" and settles for just being "comfortably" poor and increasingly fat.

Accomplishing things requires doing stuff.
Stuff is hard.
Hard is bad.
Bad is evil.
Evil must be resisted at all costs.

My point there is, you coud "set Chris up" all you like, even to the point where it was like "press this button when that red light comes on, but don't worry, it's only ever come on once in 35 years. Basically your job is to sit here and do nothing at all and collect a check every week" and Chris would complain and probably not do it.

Definitely laziness.

Though both are an issue, and he has demonstrated that he has both of the above in abundance.

And has been further cursed by parents with absolutely no initiative.

He probably wouldn't be able to neither get nor hold a job now.
(Though he could easily change his name, if his Internet legend was the only obstacle)
But years ago, he could have had a simple, minimum wage job.

He only had one job in his life: Wendy's.
(The whole knife selling scam doesn't count.)
He got fired after three days. Instead of getting him another job, so he could learn by trial and error how to keep a job (hey, he learned how to go to school after all!) Bob just gave up and put him on the :tugboat:

Can't really blame him. Well I mean sure you can, but the guy was past 70, old and tired and satisfied with knowing that the :tugboat: would more or less keep food on the table for Chris, after Bob eventually goes to the great record store above.

Ironically a job would probably also be Chris's best chance to find a sweetheart.

But anyways, laziness is his biggest problem exacerbated by his lack of initiative exacerbated by his parents lack of initiative.

I guess it's definitely laziness. He does sometimes show initiative. I mean the whole :tomgirl: thing is pretty unique for example. The thing about Chris is that he will squander every opportunity given him. The saga that drove that point home was the whole Kacey/Liquid thing. He was given opportunity after opportunity to challenge his bad habits and change his life and he just pissed it all away. I mean as it stands, he gets a :tugboat: every month so he could actually do something worthwhile like get a job (he has been employed before as some people are SLOW to remember) or he could perhaps find another way to contribute to society (NOT :sonichu: ). His laziness is what stops him grabbing these opportunities and makes him just give up every time. Now that I think about it, he's the perfect candidate for a Saw film  .

Which of Chris's character flaws is the root of all his other flaws and problems? Is it his ego? His laziness? His stupidity?

Im having difficulty putting it into a concise thought, but a general lack of expanding. He has no actual experience at anything other than being humored. Beyond chasing ghosts, he is not interested in doing anything besides walling himself in. I guess ego sums it up, but to me its a more complicated sort of causality than simply saying "his ego".

Well, I really don't think that the grass at 14 Branchland Court received enough care. They didn't water it properly in the summer and now it's all dried and brown. A failure to control the weeds has also resulted in them sapping valuable nutrients from the soil. This has caused truncated root systems for much of the grass as the weeds continue to take over the yard.
