I've been wanting to give this series a shot for a while now. Are there any recommendations for which game I should start with? I kinda wanna build to Blood Money, see how the series evolved.

Honestly? I’d recommend either Hitman 2 ...or Hitman 2. Seriously.

The original game is rather clunky today, and doesn’t have the elements most people associate with the gameplay like a free roaming sandbox style of level design or a rating system.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is basically what IO would’ve made with Codename 47 had they got more direction. The game is now focused on social stealth and infiltration of social venues rather than jungle escapades and faffing about Rotterdam. It’s still got the jank, but now it’s got more of an identity and some damn good levels to go with it (I recommend at least playing up til Hidden Valley, because that’s where the game starts going downhill).

Contracts is more of the same. Basically take Silent Assassin, give it a pinch more polish and a darker atmosphere and remove the filler levels of that game. It does feature remakes of levels from the original, PC-exclusive title so maybe have that as your first?

Blood Money is ofc. where the series gets good, but the new game is an utter masterpiece. I wouldn’t recommend starting with either though, especially since the more refined mechanics of BM will make SA and Contracts harder to adjust to. Also, DON’T get Hitman (2016), because Hitman 2 (2018) will include improved versions of all of that game’s levels as DLC.
So either start with the soon-to-be best game in the series, or start with SA or Contracts. Those are good beginner games.

Also, starter tip. Don’t worry about play style or rating your first time when playing these games. That’ll negatively impact your opinion if you’re constantly save scumming. Just improvise and you’ll have a lot more fun.

Out of curiosity, are the remastered levels including every main mission from the last game or are they just picking and choosing the most noteworthy ones, like what Rayman Legends did with the Origins levels?

It's apparently every single level. Even the Bonus ones and the Escalations. The only thing that doesn't carry over in terms of missions is the player-made Contracts.

Also they released a new gameplay trailer of Colombia:
You can knock niggas out with a thrown cocaine brick.

10/10. GOTY.

Holy shit. I've rarely seen a series recover as much as Hitman did. Hitman was fucking perfect, the throwing mechanics were amazing. It felt so badass infiltrating a rebel army base and snapping some pricks neck as disguised as a prisoner, then infiltrating an embassy and assassinating a rich banker dressed as a gay masseuse. And those were just like 2 out of 5 or 6 ways to eliminate targets.

I'm too autistic to kill anyone other than the targets, but I really want to do a run where I'm the monster in the dark, just killing shitheads sight unseen.

What impresses me is just how varied and large this location is. From what I can see:

There's a village,

and a hippo enclosure.

There's also three targets for the main mission. Two of them are related to the Delgados from the Chile mission in Blood Money, and the last is a pre-established character from the Paris level called Andrea Martinez.

Here's a 50 minute gameplay video of the new Colombia level:

Some highlights include the names of the targets being on the minimap, regional accents (which was a criticism in Hitman 2016), and what appears to be some changes to the scoring system. Also, exploding fire extinguishers only knock out nearby people, instead of killing them like in Hitman 2016.

Also, the first ET for the new game is coming either 20th or 23rd of November. Seems like a celebrity target, WB is publishing after all so maybe they have the shekels.

Alright so IO revealed a new competitive multiplayer "Ghost Mode" for the new game:
Here's what IO said about on their blog:
Ghost Mode is a brand new game mode for HITMAN 2 that introduces competitive multiplayer for the first time ever in the franchise! It’s a 1v1 online mode that will put all of your assassination skills to the test as you compete against your opponent to eliminate targets quickly and cleanly to take the win.

Ghost Mode challenges you to earn 5 points before your opponent by eliminating targets. To earn a point, the kill must be unnoticed and the body cannot be found for a short time afterwards. You’ll also lose a point for eliminating non-targets, so be smart and precise. Once one target has been eliminated, both players will begun the hunt again with a new target. To help you in your mission, you can pick up items, disguises and weapons from Ghost Crates. The items in each one are randomised but they are the same for you and your opponent. You can only take one item from each Ghost Crate and doing so removes that item as a choice for your opponent.

The unique twist with Ghost Mode is that each player is in their own ‘reality’, where your actions only affect your reality – but you’ll always be able to see a ‘Ghost’ version of your opponent. You’ll see exactly what they’re doing, what they’re wearing and any items they’re holding. One key strategic element in Ghost Mode is the use of Ghost Items, as these are the only way to impact your opponents reality. For example, throwing a Ghost Coin will attract attention in your reality, but will also do so in your opponents reality.

You’ll get Picture-in-pictures updates along the way and an announcer will keep you informed about key elements in the match. In the screenshot below, you can see that Player 2 has eliminated their target and Player 1 now has 20 seconds to equalize the score and earn a point. After those 20 seconds, a new target will be selected. Player 1 would be advised not to panic, because if a player is killed at anytime, they will be spawned back into the location but will retain their disguise and combat status. No points are lost upon death.

Ghost Mode is a brand new game mode that we’re excited to hear your feedback on. When we launch HITMAN 2 next month(!), Ghost Mode will be available on Miami and we’ll be adding more locations shortly after launch, including World of Assassination locations through the Legacy Pack. We’ll also be working to improve Ghost Mode post-launch with updates and tweaks.
So, in addition to 6 single player maps there's also the maps being remade from Hitman 1, then there's Sniper Assassin which will be its own gamemode in Hitman 2 with additional maps, then there's this mode which will be playable in Miami at launch then expand to include every location in the game. There's so much being added now the title is a fucking mouthful.

I wonder what you guys think. I expect some people will love it, some people will hate it. At least we've got all the single player content to enjoy in addition to this so it's just an alternative option.

I remember dicking around on the Mardi Gras level on Blood Money just being a complete serial killer. Killing tons and tons of people with out ever being noticed by the cops. Stabbing with a kitchen knife, throwing a kitchen knife at someone, poisoning food, sedating people then just shooting them with a silverballer

From what I saw in the GiantBomb video of Ghost mode, although you get penalized for non-target kills, it appears that your score can't drop below 0 for doing that. Would it bea a feasible strategy to try to wipe out as many guards at the start of the game, so it would be easier to get the kill scores later on? Or would you be wasting too much time, and draw way too much attention, by doing so?

Damn that game is still around? (not in a bad way)
Haven't played it since Xbox. That's pretty cool.

I think targets are only in the map for a limited time before another spawns with their own guard. I'm not too read up on everything but basically it's like an assassination race so there wouldn't be enough time to do a Kill Everyone.

Also I think you only get the point if the kill is unnoticed and the body isn't found for a certain number of seconds. Which means if your opponent scores a kill you can toss a Ghost Coin towards the body so a guard can find it.

Apologies for the double-post but the first Elusive Target of the new game will have you killing Sean motherfuckin' Bean.
He'll be lending his voice to a character called Mark Faba, the mission will last 10 days and be set in Miami's map. You can vote for which weapon you unlock by finishing it by clicking here.weaponvote.png
You get a choice between a toy robot flash grenade, earphone garrote wire or an explosive 007-style pen. Each has a video to go along with the vote.

Blood Money is where its at. The earlier ones have issues that make it less enjoyable while Blood Money fixes them to make it amazing game to play with replayablity.

I might check out the 2016 release, I knew to void Absolution and I didn't want to deal with piece apart DLC games until you can get it complete for a affordable price.

IOI hosted a livestream of the game earlier today. Some highlights and notes include the following:

-Unlocked Season 1 items unfortunately will not carry over into Hitman 2, so you'll have to play the game to unlock those items again. However, all three difficulty levels will contribute to Mastery to unlock items, unlike how some items like Napoleon Blownapart can only be unlocked in Professional Mode in Hitman 2016.

-Every three Elusive Target kills will unlock a new suit.

-There are some instances where the briefcase will be frisked.

-Picture-in-Picture can be disabled if you don't want to use it.

-The new Master difficulty will play just like how Professional difficulty is right now, one other change is that gunshots and other sounds can be heard from farther distances, depending on the difficulty mode selected.

-Silent Assassin can now be obtained even if the target him/herself spots you before you kill him/her.

-You can now carry two large weapons, one on your back and one in your hands. Example would include carrying a Sniper Rifle on your back, while holding a Katana.

-They sort-of confirmed that dual wielding pistols probably will not be returning, as they said: "Well, technically, if you put a gun in the briefcase you can have a gun on your right hand and a briefcase with the second gun on your left hand."
