Hogwarts Legacy - Harry Potter open world RPG (no trannies allowed)

I wonder if this is going to be to Harry Potter what the Arkham games were to Batman.
by that do you mean will all the reviews start with "This game really makes you FEEEEL like a wizard"?

EDIT to avoid double posting: In spite of much speculation and fan hype to the contrary, Hogwarts Legacy did NOT make an appearance at Playstation Showcase this year, meaning it is just short of a full year without any updates from the developers. I wouldn't take this solely as indication that the game has been cancelled, I don't think Warner Bros. would make that kind of mistake but people looking forward to the game are now understandable worried. I know it's tismy as fuck but I and other fans of the series have been wishing for this exact sort of game since the early 2000's and I'll be damned if it gets flushed down the shitter just because some janny trannys didn't like Rowling reminding them that they don't have a womb. Don't know what the next possible window for an update would be, but I'm sure the devs are aware of fan disappointment at a lack of news.

If it gets flushed down the shitter it'll be because of Twitter.
Jack's hellsite strikes again. Looking at comments on the original trailer, twitter hashtag for the game as well as a couple youtubers who were covering (non existent) news of the game, I'd say the devs will be feeling the pressure within the week. Fan consensus seems to have gone to impatient, but optimistic, to actively worried.

Nobody ever remembers that Twitter roughly makes up 3% of the US population and of that population using Twitter even less are video game consumers.

But no, please, appease.

Hopefully were just being dumb doomers and there just isn't enough of a polished proof of concept that Warner Bros. would be happy putting out. At this point the various nontrovercys surrounding the game have been forgotten, all thats left is fan anticipation, which is now dominated by disappointment at no news, not even so much as a tweet to say "hey guys, we don't have a trailer ready yet but we're still hard at work!" The only positive sign people have managed to dig up is the studio have been hiring alot of new staff in recent months, presumably to work on this.

Double posting bad, apologies. But I do wanna post updates on this game for those genuinely interested.

First:
A day or so after the disappointment of Playstation Showcase, where Hogwarts Legacy was a no show, Warner Bros. sent out a newsletter to those signed up to their email list. This news letter teased various news and updates about games, events, properties, ect. At the end of this email, separated by a banner reading "Don't miss an update" there is Hogwarts Legacy's promo image, on its own, front and center. This probably means Warner Bros. have noticed fan disappointment at the lack of updates, which has even led to speculation that the game has been cancelled, and want to reassure everyone that isn't the case, and it seems an update will be coming soon. Some speculate an update/trailer may come on the 16th, marking the one year anniversary since the game's announcement.

Second:
As some of you may know, there was recently a leak at Nvidia, linked here. A developer stumbled upon a database list through the GeForce service containing a long list of games and other software. This list includes unannounced titles, as well as games thought to be console exclusives. Nvidia has confirmed this list to be real, and it seems as though their game streaming service is being used by developers for testing. bench marking, and optimization of their games, which means that just because these games are being tested on PC, does not necessarily mean they will have full pc releases and may still be console exclusive. (God of War for example appeared on this list)
When searching this list, Hogwarts Legacy returns two separate entries, along with two entries under the spin off Fantastic Beasts label. This likely means game streaming and cloud services are being used by devs for playtesting of the game, due to COVID restrictions forcing many devs to work from home, and not everyone having home access to hardware required for game development.

SIDENOTE: Some of you may have also seen me posting in the other thread about this game, namely ‘Far-right’ Harry Potter video game designer raged at feminists and ‘social justice warriors’ on YouTube . I'm gonna stop posting updates and news of this game there as that thread is specifically about the controversy surrounding the former dev, and news about the game itself isn't strictly relevant.

TL:DR, the game isn't dead. You'll probably all still get your chance to make jannies cope seethe and dilate by buying and enjoying this game sometime next year.

If Rowling was really smart she'd make an M Rated Harry Potter game with huge adult themes. I have doubts this game will be good open world but instead will get tiresome events.

Imagine a GTA esque open world where you can actually destroy gringotts and become the next dark wizard.
I wouldn't take it being "open world" as queue to put it in the same vein as GTA, moreso a statement on it's level design, I see it probably fitting more into the God of War-esque mold. Open world RPG in the sense of having large areas with some collectibles, and room enough to have fun and explore, but ultimately semi-linear with a focus on going where the story wants you to go. Theres been no real indication it will be multiplayer so don't expect events as such. Expect a semi linear tightly focused western RPG. At the very least, if I was given license to head a project like this that's what I'd do. Making this into a fun multiplayer game without it just turning into a Harry Potter Fortnite skin pack sounds like an absolute nightmare. Also we're playing as a 15 year old so dark wizardry is likely off the table.

Also pro tip, tryna rob Gringotts is a suicide mission without a goblin on your side.

lol trans friends....

I have zero interest in this game but now I want to buy it.
If they manage to make it a good enough intro to the franchise without players needing to know too much before going in, I'd be highly impressed.

I have decently high hopes for a fair amount of 'mini game' style things in Hogwarts/Hogsmeade. Loads to do with the concept of Quidditch and various 'classes' like Potion Making/Defense of the Dark Arts. I remember my favorite thing about the third movie ps2 game was it had a decently open grounds hogwarts and you could fly around on Buckbeak.

if I had it my way Prisoner of Azkaban on PS2 would be required playing for every designer working on Hogwarts Legacy. Back in the good old days when movie tie in games were occasionally worth a damn. Shame the games got worse and worse as the series went on. Possibly following the trend of the films I suppose

Edit: As a bit of a turbo autist Harry Potter fan I'm gonna be one of those people playing who's gonna be a bit of a stickler for canon tho. I can buy someone starting Hogwarts late at age 15, it's unusual, but it can happen, but I'd be slightly concerned about the studio not having a lore expert on hand, as well as how well American writers would be able to handle a game set in 1800's Britain. I'm a Tadgh so any and all american-isms are gonna stick out like a sore thumb to me.

I just like that it pisses troons off for some reason. I never minded the Harry Potter books. They were alright. Better than most kid's books. It's not like you really need to know a ton to get into them other than, wizards and shit.

Yeah it's kind of dumb to see even anti-trans people hail Rowling as the new Queen of the TERFs when she really isn't. Theres trans people who are more hardline anti trans than she is. I have a bit of a sentimental attatchment to the series since being read a chapter of the first two books was actually my bed time story when I was about 36 4 or 5 years old

@Tranimal Farm

Yeah, I read them as they came out. I was the same age as the characters. When I first heard the name Harry Potter, for reason I thought it was about a family of bears, don't ask why. Then our teacher started reading it to us in class and I ended up taking it out from the library and reading the whole thing in a day or two. I'd read the hobbit and a bunch of other fantasy books by then, so when I realized it was about wizards and not bears, i was pretty stoked.

it really came out at the right time cause there weren't many fantasy series out back then that were super kid friendly, fantasy tended to lean more either towards teens or adults, and the children's market is massive in publishing so if you fill the right niche at the right time you're set for life. That and also I think kind of the old 1800s-1900s British aesthetic of the world was something really fresh and interesting and not what people (particularly americans) were used to seeing outside of Sherlock Holmes

And also the fact that this isn't set in some other fantasy world, its set in our world and this whole society of wizards lives in secret along side us was something really innovative and new for a kids fantasy series. of course now it's hard to find such a series that doesn't take influence from, or just flat out plagiarize (looking at you Cassandra Claire) Rowling's work

Yup, 90s kid fiction was very lacking in that type of fantasy till Harry Potter came along.

And 90s American kids had never really seen anything like the British aesthetic.

I mean most american schools don't even have uniforms like we do here in Britain and Ireland so I can hardly blame you all for considering it all a bit alien lol
