What is Hololive Production?
Hololive Production (typically stylized in lowercase as hololive production) is the largest VTuber management company with over 100 million collective YouTube subscribers across all of their channels.

Hololive Production is owned by a parent company, COVER Corp. COVER acts as a holding company for hololive production in addition to several related ventures relating to their VTuber business. Examples of such would be the technology behind the vtubers that they manage, merchandising rights for the talents, and various different media outlets from official animations to video games.

What do all these terms and abbreviations mean?
Different groups under the hololive production umbrella have shortened names that are used when refering to them.
  • Hololive = can either mean the branches that consist of only female talents (Hololive, Hololive Indonesia, Hololive English, Hololive DEV_IS) or refers to the main Japanese branch.
  • HoloJP, HoloID, HoloEN = Simply Hololive + national signifier. Holostars, Holostars English, and Hololive DEV_IS don't have common abbreviations.
Within each branch, there are generally several generations of vtubers. These generations are a group of talents that debut at the same time and are considered a unit. For example, the first generation of Hololive English debuted in 2020 with five members:

This generation is known as Hololive Myth, or EN1. Most generations across branches have a proper name, like Myth, and a numerical shorthand used by fans (EN1, JP4, ID3). The exception to this rule are the first 3 HoloJP generations, JP0, JP1 and JP2. JP0 was a generation created after the fact for marketing purposes. The talents in JP0 debuted at different times before hololive implemented a standard generational structure.

Who exactly is their target audience here?
Japanese fans and people interested in Hololive. Shohei Ohtani, the greatest Japanese baseball player of all time, currently plays for the Dodgers so I would imagine that they are quite popular in Japan. Hololive and VTubers in general are more mainstream there so a collaboration like this does make some sense. I think sports executives are pretty eager to cash in on anime and anime adjacent properties. Several teams have had nights themed around different anime franchises and I view vtubers as an extension of that trend.

Are we now pretending that this isn't an April Fools joke?
Anyway: There were multiple big mainstream collabs in the past, especially from Hololive. Suisei had her own Converse design and recently a collaboration with McDonald's Japan featuring big stars like Ado and YOASOBI

Sharp collabed with Miko and bransed a himidifier because she thought they can run without water

This Miko clip dragged me into the VTuber vortex when it first became viral, and now it's 5 years old. (:_(

My idea of april fools is shit like that time everything was spinning or the time everyone was forced to wear anime avatars against their will.
Who exactly is their target audience here? Wouldn't it be better to advertise online or at anime conventions or something?
For the ritual to be complete you MUST put the autistic woman gaming livestreamer with some anime character mocap setup in front of thousands.

Supposedly they are at 100 million if you include the official Hololive channels. Article
I hope nobody sincerely believes this creative accounting.
If you have 10 channels and 10 subscribers to each, you don't have 100 fans, you have maybe 15 at most.
Something is deeply rotten in this company for them to put out a "we will give you residuals if you don't say you retired" deal that four of the last five people who quit didn't even take, all while the SEAniggers who infest and moderate /vt/ are unironically convinced that Nijisanji runs those gristmills that need teams of slaves to push.

So with Gura "graduating" on May 1st, do you think she could come back as a new VT?
