I've been running home assistant for a couple years now. Its a bit of a chore to set up, but very reliable once it's up and running.

I know some people do some crazy automations with HA, but my favorite automation so far is having my bedroom lights turn on when my phone alarm goes off.

Post your 1337 automations and themes here

Central heating: Motorised TRVs on most of the radiators are controlled using Better Thermostat, with temperatures synchronised to thermometer devices placed at suitable locations in the room. An automation detects when any of them is calling for heat and turns on the boiler. It turns it off when all the TRVs are idle.

I have an automation to send SMS notifications (using sms.notify) when the batteries in the TRVs are low, but they don't seem to actually report the battery status properly, so it never fires. Got to fix that one. I can also turn on the heating using the same system (currently just turns all the TRV temps up to 25°C for 30 minutes). I've got to re-work that one to handle different options.
