I didn't know they got this big. I must've picked a really hardy variety too because I've got a garlic plant growing in a spot where I accidentally smashed one of the cloves that fell in a hole I was digging for other garden plants

I should be trimming these now, right? They're starting to grow swirly bits I think might be scapes

For some reason it won't let me add the picture so I'll fix it later

Edit: There we go

Please don't make fun of my lawn it's been too cold and rainy to mow until today

If the swirly bits are kinda hard, round stalks coming up, yeah those are scapes. I usually have to cut them once or twice but they're good in salad, homemade sourdough, dehydrated and ground into powder. They serve a lot of uses. Garlic, by nature, is incredibly hardy. I will judge your lawn though.

Good job fren!

I'm starting to wonder how viable it is to grow and sell garlic as a small business because it's shocking to me how easy it is. I might just forget growing other vegetables and use my backyard to grow garlic and see if I can sell it at a local farmer's market next year and see how that goes.

As long as you're not stepping on my toes, go for it lol it's truly the gift that keeps on giving. There's so many varieties out there too and even if you don't sell it, you're going to have garlic for life and now you can have fun processing it into all sorts of things. Wait till you make homemade garlic powder!
continua your exploit Garlic Presidente
Gracias.

Officially moved into the farm. I'll post pics when I plant this fall. Happy gardening everyone!

This is the view outside right now. As a former city rat, this will take some getting used to. There's lightning bugs all over the tree line and i love it. I suggest everyone move to the fucking middle of nowhere....so long as it's not my middle of nowhere.

Living out in the middle of nowhere is great. I had someone try to dox me once and all they could pull up was cornfields because it's just cornfields for miles around.

I had a sneaking suspicion you were an ear of corn.

I have harvested half of my garlic early because the scapes were all falling over. I will harvest the other half in about a month. I am sorry I did not plant more.

My garlic has started developing swirly scapes, I've trimmed the ones that were big enough to loop

Moved onto the farm too late in the season and between the heat and deer my plants fucking suck outside potatoes but I'll be planting garlic in the fall. Trying a garlic and cayenne spray to keep the deer away, will update with effectiveness. Next step is going to be rock salt in the shotty.

Speaking of garlic mine is almost ready to harvest, the stalks are dying off. No problem with pests either, I don't know if we just don't get many garlic pests out here or if the spider bro that's nesting between them is putting in overtime but at worst I had a weed coiling one stalk that I pulled off

Not the full haul there's one more bundle off camera, I loosely tied them together with some sewing thread and hung em in the garage. I'm worried it's too hot and humid in there for them though so I'll have to figure out something better this weekend
