Homestar Runner - hai guoys

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Reminder that Homestar Runner is even older, as the earliest concept of it goes all the way back in July/August of 1996 with the brothers' book they made called The Homestar Runner Enters the Strongest Man in the World Contest.
And in December they made a Mario Paint animation of all the characters you'll come to know.
So this shit is coming up 30 (Thirty) years old.

I do remember when Peasant Quest hit the site and there was quite a bit of excitement for it.

Though I also got a kick out of the They Dungeonman games - I'd played the sort of Sierra adventure games that Peasant Quest gently mocked (at a time those were already being considered 'vintage' games), and I'd played more recent text adventures at the time that sometimes had some of the same "Ye Can't Take Ye Flask" problems that 1980s text games had.

"Thou're not very goodst at thist gamest"

It was totally a throwback to those old Sierra games in both look and tone. The puzzles and the silly bits they'd throw in for a laugh brought me back.

An interesting thing about the trailer is the guy playing the knight is Lucky Yates who is best known for playing Dr. Krieger on "Archer" and was the model for Ray Gillette on the same show.

Facebook keeps trying to get me join HSR groups but they're loaded with faggot libs that post "Homestar Says Trans Rights!" which fills me with homicidal rage.
you see, the thing that makes Homestar Runner so beloved is that its completely apolitical and people from all sides can laugh at it. Taking that away from the site completely destroys most of what made it unique.

The most political thing I remember them doing is back when Elon bought Twitter and a lot of people were complaining about how it would totally shut down, they tweeted something like “if Twitter dies and we have to communicate through some other means, we have this thing called a website”.

I remember how big a deal it was when Peasant's Quest came out. People were absolutely psyched over it. Probably the most anticipated bit of HSR content at the time.
I was a freshmen in highschool in 2004 (and had just discovered Homestar) when a couple of hurricanes rolled through and knocked out power in my area for two weeks. My neighborhood got our power/internet back a week before school started back up, and I fondly remember binging Homestar videos and playing through Peasant's quest in between outings with my dad and brother to clear brush. I replayed the game last year (maybe the year prior?) and unlocked a series of core memories. Goddamn what a website.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. With all the consternation in the press about Elon Musk and DOGE, has anyone linked any of this to Homestar? There's a weird progression where "Doge" went from a Shiba Inu meme, to a cryptocurrency, to a goverment spending watchdog organization; but the origin of the "Doge" mispelling and pronounciation on the Internet was a puppet Homestar video (even the Doge wikipedia article references this).
