Homestar Runner - hai guoys

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I just remembered that https://thoraxcorp.com/index.html still exists in all it's early 2000s corporate website shitpost glory. It was a hidden link tucked away somewhere on the original homestarruner website back in 2002
That and the strong sad blog are the most high effort Easter eggs I've ever seen

I remember websites. I had a favorites bar full of websites on my browser and I would click on them in sequential order every day to see if anything updated because I was too retarded to understand how RSS worked. If there were no updates left to read, I went outside and climbed trees and vandalized cars.

Homestarrunner pro tip: click everywhere all the time, you might find an easter egg

I feel RSS is really handy, but I never got around to learn how to use them and my wife is like "I program feeds all the time!"

there was a big problem at work about a year ago when the boss tried to use the RSS feed on our site and it just spit out a bunch of html-looking gibberish
and we started running around like idiots seeing it was doing this on all the machines but one
then we found out that was the only one set up to read an RSS feed, and it was just that literally nobody in the office has ever used or touched an RSS feed in our lives

Literally haven’t watched it since I was 12 in 2003. Never really got the appeal; there were much better and funnier online flash cartoons from the time (and definitely these days).
Homestar stood out back in early 2000's because it wasn't attempting to be aggressively edgy/raunchy as part of its humor, which was very prevalent in flash media in 98-2004 with sites like The Romp, all of which have been forgotten.
And I remember when Shmorky/Lowtax made a flashtub video on Something Awful dissing Homestar. Now Shmorky became an exiled psychotic embarrassment, Lowtax killed himself, and Homestar keeps scrollan and scrollan.

I'm getting to be an old fart, in my 30's, haven't watched any Homestar stuff since back when it was relevant. Fond memories of it but I figured I liked it as a young teen but it wouldn't do anything for me in current day.

Watched a bunch of Strongbad emails today and holy moly, this shit holds up so well in the current dire age of all this fucking god awful millenial Marvel writing "humor".
Genuinely good, off the wall abstract humor. I can't believe I'm legitimately enjoying flash cartoons from 20+ years ago.

No relying on vulgar language or violence or sex jokes (Rick and Morty-esque slop). No FUCKING memes and le heckin redditor jokes.

I was watching old Homestar videos with friends from book club last night. The Brothers Chap started out as kids writers and it's really nice they kept the thing kid friendly all those years. One of the two creators did several contracts for DisneyXD and got to work on several other kids shows. He even wrote a few episodes of Gravity Falls.

I think it's even better than stuff like Regular Show as far as cartoons that appeal both to kids and their parents. The jokes are a lot more creative.
