Horrible yet uncanceled - Shows that Just. Don't. Stop.

The Walking Dead

This is completely outside of how played out zombies are too. The show is just really stupidly written and gets worse every year.

However I feel like the garbage people that speak in broken yoda sentences are completely appropriate for how stupid the show has gotten over the past eight years.

A huge reason for the decline of both History and Discovery around 2009 / 2010 is because the Obama administration stopped putting out millions of dollars for the production of "educational" programming. This was generally the source for virtually all of these shows.
To be honest Discovery was going downhill long before then. I distinctly remember my folks watching a program back in 2004 (maybe earlier) about mega-tsunamis. To call it misleading is an understatement. It claimed a landslide in the Canary Islands would devastate the east coast of the US. Needless to say such a view is not shared by other scientists (save for the two in the program), but you wouldn't know that just by watching.

Damn. Good thing I didn't waste my time on that channel.

Disaster science in general was really popular in the mid 2000s and is to this day. Turns out dime a dozen specials on doomsday scenarios sell well. I blame that for edutainment's decline.

The Crime Procedural overall is a genre which should just end.

For whatever reason, I tend to enjoy crime procedural novels but I never could get into any crime procedural TV shows. Probably because most of them come off as really cheesy and dull and I'm obviously not the target audience (read: people in their fifties and sixties who grew up on shit like Adam-12 and Dragnet). Even recent example of the genre on TV that try to "modernize" are even more corny and embarrassing (like the mercifully cancelled "APB" from earlier this year).

The genre could still produce gold (because it is a reliable storytelling framework with tons of room for variation), but there has to be some artistic merit to it like The Shield or The Wire or the first season of True Detective. It can't just be case-of-the-week with flat, largely static characters, and an unchanging status-quo. This shit might have flown in previous decades where syndication and episode count still meant $$ but the landscape of television has changed considerably since the days of random detective shows with 350+ episodes, all bearing the same repetitive format.

Also, Full Frontal With Samantha Bee is absolutely putrid. How easily led could someone possibly be in order to sit down and actually enjoy the shit opinions of that smug, shrivel-faced, lipless hunchback? I keep hoping one of the other gargoyles will shove her off the roof of whatever cathedral she perches on.

Trump outrage = $$$$

They don't even have to be particularly funny or clever at it, the angrier they are, the more the target audience boosts the ratings. Just look at the shitshow that Colbert has turned into.

The History Channel has to die in my book. They have long since betrayed their roots as a channel for excellent history documentaries and then some fun history stuff like Wild West Tech to chase Doomsday people, Conspiracy Theorists, and Reality TV. It is like watching my dog getting slaughtered every time I see the History Channel continuously chase the lowest common denominator.

Law and Order is pretty great though. And the original Dragnet is the bomb, not the remake version from the 70s, but the original black and white episodes as well as the radio serials. Blue Bloods is also a really good show, though that's more of a police drama series than a procedural.

Law and Order SVU turned to shit after Eliot Stabler left.

I couldn't agree more! Stabler was the best.

Are they still running hours upon hours of that goddamn Ice Road Truckers show? That shit needed to stop before it even began.

Their online stuff is heartbreaking too. All they post on social media is garbage viral vids about how the Mercador projection is racist or how the cult of Stonewall Jackson needs to die.

I miss the History Channel that was like this...

I finally got a taste of the fanbase and have been refusing to watch season three.
It's a shame when it happens, but I guess most best shows aren't immune from that.

Geez, and I just wanted to know what happened in history at all. That stuff came in handy on test time.

The Walking Dead is complete garbage. I sat through 5 seasons of that mess with my girlfriend. A character crashes a fucking car while driving on a road with no fucking cars on it. :story: The zombies are also inconsistent as shit. While they were on a farm a certain zombie couldn't even grab and get a hold of a small child, yet a half hour later it's able to tear open a grown mans abdomen and rip out his organs. Now they're trying to force some teen romance drama, lmao. It's pretty funny to rip on though.

The character the inconsistent zombie killed was one of the characters people actually gave a shit about. The other one got shot by some dumb blonde. Rick Grimes' actor carries the hell out of that show.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but hidden camera shows like What Would You Do? and Undercover Boss collectively form the most revolting pile of cloying, preachy inspiration porn that Western society has seen fit to create. Everybody involved in the production thereof can fuck right off.
