I know I'm late but there's probably an argument for Horror not being a genre, most Horror stories could probably fit comfortably within other genres with a sub-categorization of Horror rather than just being Horror.

That film is almost so bad it's good. But just almost. I love Bill Paxton's line delivery when he sees Helena on the bed without any limbs and he goes "SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL!"

I do think it improved on the soundtrack and I do think in terms of scares its better even on a conceptual level given what happens to Karras.

Karras's fate was fucking cruel but at least he is finally put out of his misery by Kinderman

There are only two Exorcist movies, 1 and 3. The rest shouldnt be considered, tho I did say the series has its fans.

I legit debate to myself if The Heretic or Believer is worse, I guess the former is worse but its almost more entertaining, the latter cant even be bothered to be that.

Believer is worse because it's shitty disposable entertainment. Disposable entertainment is much more forgettable and boring and it's why it's much worse than an actual bad movie.

Domino/The Beginning had good ideas, but due to executive meddling and change of directors at the last minute, it was a shitty Frankenstein monster. The Director's Cut was better, but it's not saying much, it still sucks. And the Heretic is so-bad-it's-good.
 
Okay, so, werewolf movies? Cool? Cool. But they are very stupid once you begin to think about "How the fuck the whole world doesnt know about them?". Its one thing these things happening in the middle ages or something but nowadays? A large wolf like figure that can stand on two and rip people apart like wet paper and can spread its condition with a bite would certainly end up on the news sooner or later

Its one thing if the werewolf can control the transformation like in Underworld or something but in movies where its a mindless transformation? Especially when it reaches populated areas? Really makes you wonder how the fuck these wild creatures remained hidden for so long, especially its bound that SOMEONE will be recorded in the middle of a full moon transformation sooner or later.

Im not counting settings where there are contengency plans for that with some secret order keeping the masquerade because there is an excuse there but usually in these movies there isnt. We are just suppose to shrug and just assume this is the first time this happened somehow

There would be entire groups hunting these things to prove they are real, except that, unlike Big Foot, it realistically wouldnt take much time to get results given that these creatures arent exactly subtle

And given how a curse/infection would realistically spread given how it all takes is a single bite, its just a matter of time until the entire world has to come clean about werewolves being not only real but an invasive species that need to be hunted to extinction.

so what Im saying is that horror movies are dumb :)

And the funny part? Blumhouse is contractually obligated to make two more Exorcist movies and after this one was a massive flop, it really makes you wonder how much they are in for a financial disaster (not that it will bring them under but it will hurt).

One of the problems with too many "big" movies these days is that they are indeed Frankensteins' monster films, no real cohesive creative vision, that go through erratic stop-and-start phases of meddling from sociopathic studio execs and managerial airheads always dropping production notes, numerous rewrites, reshoots, and so on. All of these parts and groups and factions getting in each other's way, certainly isn't conducive to making good films.

I like the Poochie episode of the simpsons so much because irl it really is that stupid to be a part of any project involving marketing people who think focus groups and google trends is the best way to decide everything. If its awful in a small scale studio i can't even begin to imagine how bad it must be when there's millions of dollars at stake.

Movie idea: There's a werewolf that is the can't control the transformation kind. So they live in the woods to protect others people, but they still get spotted by campers and are mistaken for Bigfoot. Then Bigfoot hunters like what they had on TLC or whatever show up trying to find Bigfoot but it's really a werewolf.

IDK just a silly idea.

Werewolf movies do take a lot of suspension of disbelief if it's modern times and the setting is in an urban location (like the second and third act of An American Werewolf in London) or the suburbs (Ginger Snaps). It's probably why some werewolf movies end with a commentary on the public's reaction where people who witness a transformation are indifferent (The Howling) or the big revelation is covered on a sensationalist tabloid newspaper and under the results of a big sports match (Dog Soldiers). Despite being a Syfy original movie, Battledogs at least addressed the threat of werewolves overrunning New York by quarantining all those who were attacked and survived.
