I was already sort of, kind of, a bit aware of Rebane by the time I saw Monster-a-Go-Go on MST3K - and later learned it was initially a Rebane project Terror at Halfday that was abandoned after he ran out of funds, and H.G. Lewis bought it up and added his own scenes and narration to it, all because he needed something to use as the B-reel to pair with a flick called Moonshine Mountain for a double feature. Hershell Gordon Lewis finishing a film Rebane couldn't, that's like the ultimate collision of terrible regional Midwestern filmmakers.
 
I was in the mood for some post-Scream horror, whatever was on Amazon Prime. Ended up with Jeepers Creepers.

The siblings' relationship was nicely fleshed out. The episodic quality was quite interesting, but should have been introduced earlier. I appreciated how the siblings were not (by cliche) considered suspects by the cops.

Ending: When devil-man flies off with the brother you think that's when sister invades the evil chapel and movie has a strong conclusion. However, you are wrong, the movie's over. The brother dies gruesomely and that's it. Movie totally sucks. No story arc.

Plus the writer/director is a bonafide pedo. I thought even pedos might make entertaining movies... WRONG

yeah he's bad enough that some of his movies aren't "so-bad-they're-good" they're just "nothing fucking happens"

The director being a pedophile makes a few scenes really uncomfortable, but I assure you, the scene of the creeper sniffing the underwear is essential to the plot, just like how the second movie has all the boys pissing together is crucial to the creepers lore.

The sequels were sillier
 
Bit late to this one but I decided to watch Weapons finally, I think the hype was well deserved! It was so nice to just watch a normal movie with no political marxist bullshit in it and I think a lot of the typical letterboxd moviegoers fail to understand that's why it was so good and successful. For a good two hours I felt like I was just watching a horror movie instead of the typical 2025 film experience where I'm constantly reminded that the movie was made in 2025. It's quite timeless in that regard and I can see this being enjoyed by people even in the distant future. It had great atmosphere and was almost structured like a thriller which I thought made it interesting. Just felt nice to know that good movies are still being released every once in a while.

You mean besides the most diverse small town out there, where the principal of the school is an Asian disney adult gay man with a boyfriend/husband the movie makes sure to show us. Or how Josh Brolin is a goofy man who just can't get over a tragedy to the point where he sleeps in his child's bed while his wife adjusted just fine and resents how pathetic he is? When he's trying to get camera footage the strong independent woman shuts him down immediately so he has to get consent from her gullible husband instead. Or the police brutality subplot with the white junkie despite this being the most diverse town out there?
If you like the movie that's fine but let's not pretend it isn't there. Or has the Overton Window just shifted so far that this doesn't even register anymore?

There's a story arc it's just not the one you wanted. Plenty of horror movies have the evil force win in the end.

You're not wrong but hey I'll take what I can. It's Hollywood and it's a ridiculous expectation to want all the media I enjoy to align perfectly with all my political views. And if we are talking about woke, it's definitely not comparable to many recent films like One Battle After Another. The gay couple was literally just one scene and them being gay was so irrelevant to the plot that it really would not have changed a thing whether the husband was changed to a woman or not.
Also keep in mind that I'm Canadian. Where I come from, this IS the least diverse town I've seen in a while. :lit:

It's this one; it's mainly due to Bill Rebane being a native of my state and it being Halloween, so I figure I might as well show some pride.

They're also playing this : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077485/ next week, and I really want to see this just for the Romero-crew involved with it.

giant spider invasion is greasy and occasionally you can't see shit but it's one of his better ones
 
I just rewatched Good Boy. It impressed me more on the second watch.

I noticed a few things the second time:

- The fox Indy sees might very well be a ghost. There's an extended shot of a taxidermied fox early in the film, the fox seems to disappear when Indy glances away for a moment (like many figures creepily do throughout the movie), and it, oddly, seems not to have been bothered by the numerous fox traps like the one Indy gets caught in.

Am I overthinking things? Probably. But it's possible.

- I like the little ways the haunted house seems almost to be alive. Like, the floodlight in the backyard seems to act independently, not really on a motion sensor, like an eye glaring at Indy.

- Two sections of the movie I found confusing the first time through: when Indy gets dragged (offscreen) into the sealed basement after finding the grandfather's armchair, and when his recently collapsed owner (seemingly possessed) follows him out of the house and rescues him from the fox trap.

Even more so than most films, this one is really made in the editing. And something about the sequence of events is hard to follow in those scenes.

- The soundtrack is absolutely excellent, and it really helps sell the events on screen.

- My favorite shot of the movie is when Indy breaks away from the ghost in the doghouse, bolts into the silent, wooded darkness... and then runs right back towards the house, and his master, with the score pulsing. Really great stuff.

Please give me the sequel with a disinterested cat.

Twister's Revenge is worse than a boring horror movie: it's a horrible "comedy". Those are the worst.

Giant Spider Invasion is fuckin cool and I rewatched it fairly recently, but I think Alpha Incident is his best movie and a good example of how weird zero budget 70s stuff is peak horror.
