Release date: August 28, 2026 (US)(Theaters)

Yeon Sang-ho’s (Train to Busan) newest feature, COLONY, follows Professor Se-jeong as she is thrust into a terrifying hellscape when a mutating virus is unleashed during a biotech conference, forcing authorities to seal the facility to contain the outbreak. Unable to escape, Se-jeong and a group of survivors must fight to stay alive as the infected undergo horrific transformations and threaten to spread the virus.

Hmmm

Has anyone seen any natural horror films? As in the ones based on animals?

I am surprised there is no polar bear horror film. Oddly, there are some black bear horror films. Ironic considering black bears are the most docile of the North American bears.

It looks like a slightly lacking list, although it's focus is probably no supernatural elements or cameo roles. I think the autists on Letterboxd might have more comprehensive lists.

I'm fond of cat flicks. Uninvited (1987), Strays (1991), The Black Cat (1981) - Fulci's tribute to '60s and '70s English horror which involves a serial killing and domestic abusing(!) cat.

Don't overlook Phase IV if you like your creature features with a more serious sci-fi aspect, it's cheaply made but really good.

Wife put on the trailer for some new Night Of The Living Dead, it looked shit but I kept laughing as it screamed "BASED ON THE ORIGINAL MOVIE" like that's a real claim to fame

Will they make one based on the 1990 version, or the 1998 one which is the original plus newly filmed footage to "tie" things? Or the 2006 one where Ben is white? I want them to remake Night Of The Day Of The Dawn Of The Son Of The Bride Of The Return Of The Revenge Of The Terror Of The Attack Of The Evil Mutant Alien Flesh Eating Hell Bound Crawling Zombified Living Dead

To be fair, I was hoping for something as simple as a man eating big cat that takes down people one by one. That too somewhat big budget.

There are some lion and tiger movies, but I was hoping for a man-eating leopard film. Or even a film loosely based on Jim Corbett.

Also, am I the only one who misses zombie movies. Some of them were fun. I do not really care about the current slashers.

They secured the rights to a public domain movie

👏👏👏 brah voh

Cats are not scary and filmmakers' efforts to work around this plain fact has provided the world with a lot of quality entertainment.

That is so much more specific than anticipated. I can't think of any good pure horror films with a realistic big cat scenario. Something else that comes to mind is The Ghost and the Darkness which ain't horror but it has some tension, and has the people getting picked off aspect. It's not just a slasher with a lion, though.

The Leopard Man might be worth a try. The title makes it sound like some black and white sci-fi horror schlock, but it's not supernatural and it does have a dangerous cat situation for most of the duration. Even if it turns out not to be your thing, it's a masterpiece which has to help.

The only real version is the 1968 version. Fuck any other version except the first color version, which was ALMOST as good.

Cats are reasonably okay as jumpscares, e.g., Alien.

To be fair, I am content with a big cat stalking man content whether it is horror or thriller/mystery. So The Ghost and Darkness looks to be a good movie. Thanks for the recommendation.

From what I could find, the second film has a human killer posing as a leopard. I was hoping for an actual leopard.

For example, here is a real case of a man-eating leopard.

There is a BBC miniseries based on these man-eaters.

Cat scares have been killed off by every other 80s slasher playing the concept completely straight. There's always a fake scare, it's always a cat (either hidden in some place a cat couldn't have gotten into, or clearly chucked from offscreen by a stagehand), and then when the audience feels safe, the killer pops out by "surprise".

At any rate, the cat being the false scare just goes to show that they are not themselves scary. Cat's Eye having the cat be the hero works better. I like The Uncanny (with Peter Cushing) because although the cats in the movie are explicitly evil, the movie still seems to come down on the side of the cats.

I'm in ten minutes in They Will Kill You and holy shit. It is already established MC's dad is white, the first floor is a servant floor of all black maids, and the only male janitor so far is the black husband of the white boss of the hotel. I can't go with the 'its a story' anymore, the racial issues are so on the nose.
Meanwhile, almost every lady is going around braless for some reason so their nipples are pressing through their clothes. I can't tell if the director is trying to ape "hot sexy blonde women in slasher films" or it is his barely-hidden fetish. These women aren't attractive enough for the former.

Surprised 2017 Boar isn't on that list. It's clearly inspired by Razorback. Features a truly delightful animatronic. I haven't seen 2022 Beast with Idris Elba but I think that's a splatter/monster horror with maneating lions.

The only scenario I can think of where a cat is scary is if the people were like shrunk down somehow. Like Michael Crichton's Micro (which sucked IIRC but it was an interesting idea). Cats simply don't pose a threat to humans and aren't intimidating.

Just finished and I'm sort of glad I kept going because now it just feels the opening was slapped on because of higher-ups. The movie was basically an actionized Dante's Inferno. The movie skipped a couple of floors obviously for runtime, but the difference between the opening and the rest of the movie was night and day. Probably ranges around 'good' in my rating. Not a masterpiece by any means, but good if you want an action horror-ish movie. My only flaw other than the opening is the dialogue. Everyone is saying variations of 'fuck' and 'bitch' every three seconds.
Even the maids are hunting the MC down for Satan too, that got a chuckle from me.

Teaser for the resident evil movie is out, I fear this corroborates the leaked script from a little while ago

Certainly looks like a Zach C movie because I can't fucking see shit.

I kid but cheesy teaser aside, I'll be cautiously optimistic because of the pedigree (really liked Weapons) but unsure what I've seen here that resembles RE in any way beyond the name and insinuation of mutated monsters/zombies.

The question is: should I care if he's just shoehorning another script and idea into this project and there's only tenuous connections to the game series... if the movie is just good? I think the obvious answer is no, but I am not that upset as a fan of the games if they don't take another abortive run at doing a 1:something adaptation and we just get something half decent.

Hmmm

Apparently a fungus, but the white glistening material made me first think these could be cum zombies (a commentary on cooming?!).

I suppose the game series has progressed from campy schlock towards more serious horror starting with Biohazard, so a reboot isn't completely unwarranted.
