I'd hate to be the devil's advocate, but I really didn't think it was that dumb. Maybe it's because my Spanish class is my favorite class right now and I love reading anything I can understand in the language, but his Spanish really isn't all that bad for a student. Sure, that looks like something he should have written near the end of his FIRST year of Spanish, but he only messes up a few times. Really, the teaching method is good. You're supposed to get the students to write about stuff they're interested in. But yeah, Chris's interests are pretty dull.

If you want to see him mangle Spanish, read the Valentine's Day hymn he translated. Dios mío, it's horrible.

I've taken three semesters of Spanish and I'm thinking of studying Spanish translation, but I'm nowhere near being fluent. Chris thought he was fluent after taking only two years of Spanish, so it shows how delusional he is.
Chris actually speaks better Spanish than me, and I learned it for...I dunno, four years. That's depressing. (:_(

Come to think of it, according to Chris, there's a Chao Garden in that hotel.

I'd go there just for the Chao. God I miss that feature in Sonic games.

Imagine if this hotel really existed, just hope this won't happen....

I disagree.
Do you remember the video he made in Spanish directed at Liquid?

have you seen this video?

bueño? bueño

"Yo el verdad Christopher Christian Ricardo Weston Chandler"

He can't even conjugate the verb to be in the present tense (I'm sure that is begginer level). I think it's safe to say that his spanish is just terrible.

Oh, crap. I could only take 30 seconds and couldn't understand that much - it's his high pitched voice.

I know his Spanish is terrible. Read his translation of the Valentine's Day hymn for evidence of that. I'm just saying his Hotel Ricky Ricardo paper isn't all that bad.

that translation of his poem back to english is amazing

I know, right? He has no business trying to translate things into Spanish, his level is nowhere close to being able to do that.

Yes the paper is actually nicely written and understandable. Probably he had the lessons fresh in his mind or he had the textbook when he wrote it. Which is good, if he had kept at it he would have been fluent by now.
But then this video, I don't understand. But like they say, language is a skill, if you don't practice you lose it.

Well.....you are wrong there

The phrase goes on: "Yo, el verdad, Christopher Christian "Ricardo" Weston Chandler, no solamente me gradue de Manchester High con mi titulo..."

There you have the verb, Chris is not stating that he "is" the true Cwc, he says that He, "the true" cwc, graduated from manchester high. He used the verb "graduar", on past tense and singular 3rd person, correctly.

That doesnt mean this doesnt have his fuck ups, "yo, el verdad" is incorrect, what Chris means is "Yo, el verdadero". And you could point a lot of fuck-ups like that on the video.

But anyways for high-school level I dont think his spanish is so bad. I dont know, maybe spanish classes on high-school kick ass in america, but If I had to rely on my high-school english, I think I would barely be able to post here or understand most of the posts.

Repeating myself, his spanish is not good, his spanish sucks, but its not so abysmal as everybody says, I've seen much better educated and intelligent people do far worse than him.

On the other hand, Chris being Chris, he thinks that he is bilingual, but thats another whole problem

I'm fairly sure he actually was decent at Spanish in high school. But that was two classes, almost 15 years ago. If he hasn't used any conversational Spanish since then, his skills are almost certainly gone.

If the textbook had a section on hotels, it could explain some of the decency of this assignment (I have to take your guys' word for this since what little Spanish I had to learn ages ago is long forgotten, that and it was Mexican Spanish so some of the words would've been foreign to me anyways). Perhaps he also often got direct help from the teacher for being a special snowflake?

he probably had to fill out a worksheet and write a paper from that. doesn't explain the nonsequitor of his parents fighting though

Well, isn't it only natural for your hexagenarian parents to yell at each other on a daily basis over their TV dinners?

What we were given in our MDF lessons were approx. 100 stock phrases for an assignment and you just had to add a verb/number/name/noun to a blank. I get the feeling that that's what he was using, usually people new to a language seriously fuck up the structure of words and I assume (from the translation) that he wasnt too bad in that front.

However I will never take the piss out of Chris for being crap at a language, 5 years French and 4 years mandarin at school and it's all gone. I can barely speak English now .

OT: do we know what grade Chris got at the end of high school? I wonder how good they thought he was at Spanish.

ahh well that makes sense.
I thought he was saying two sentences because of the "el verdad"

I respect your opinion but I still disagree with it. I don't think Chris' Spanish is above highschool level

I believe that video speaks for itself and all the "bueños" are the cherry on top

The "bueño" always cracked me up, in fact, the first time I signed up on one of the Cwcki forums I picked "Bueño!" as my nick

As weird as it may sound, Chris might've been onto something when it comes to his unnecessary acknowledgement of the Dreamcast in HRR. At one point, Sega was planning on having hotel rooms and resorts equipped with Dreamcasts, but with a special add-on that would work with specific smart watches. The add-on would interface with the watch and have the watch act as a wallet and ticket for certain services.
