I have to be put under general anesthesia today, I hope I don't wake up and say a bunch of stupid shit. I remember picking my friend up from the hospital after surgery and she was saying some pretty embarrassing things.

I shouldn't have read that some people wake up during anesthesia, that sounds horrifying. I've been put to sleep before tho and I didn't wake up so I'm sure I'll be fine...

Lol was in general anesthesia a week ago and the first thing I said was apparently commenting on an old lady they rolled past me, saying she looks like a corpse in no certain but not flattering terms.

I feel bad for that but the nurses were pretty chill about it. Bet they've heard worse.

They definitely have, I was chatting with a nurse while they were setting me up, she said the worst things she heard are people admitting to cheating or telling their kids how they're a disappointment, and someone told her they didn't want a Hispanic nurse touching them lol.

You lay there and there are five surgeons talking and they put a mask over your face and wipe your eyes, in my case, and set you up by manipulating your body into place, and *snap* you're out in a blink.

And when you wake up, you can't feel a thing emotionally. At least not in my case.

I wish I could have chatted with my nurses instead of crying. First time during it so I was so nervous, I basically but very politely freaked out. It's a trippy experience when your emotions are running high.

I don't blame you for crying, it IS a really weird experience, especially the first time. You feel very vulnerable just laying there while a bunch of medical staff and the surgeon fumble with stuff, talk to each other, and poke you or tell you to turn over etc, and all the while, you don't know what to expect. I think a lot of people go in the first time thinking they will just slowly get really sleepy and then fall asleep. Nope. You're awake one second, and then the next second, you're being woke up by the nurse.

TBH I think it's fun being put under after you get over the first time jitters. I always try to fight it and stay awake but it's pointless, you literally just suddenly go completely lights out before you realize it.

Sucks you didn't feel anything emotionally when you woke up, I felt the opposite, I wanted to talk and get up and leave. It could be that you were under sedation for a long time (I was only out for like 20 minutes today). How long were you out?

I read the longer you're out the worse it is on your body and mind, my friend seemed drunk af when she was under for 2 hours.

I also read a horrifying thing, doctors aren't sure that we are actually "asleep" when we are put to sleep. They said we might actually be awake the whole time and see/feel everything, but we forget about it once we wake up. That's creepy to think about

It's funny because everyone I know who's been under full sedation told me that their biggest fear was never waking up.

No one thought to consider we would be outright conscious through the whole thing. That's actually far more terrifying.

Good luck. When I got surgery on my broken ankle they offered to do a spinal anaesthesia then get me so stoned that I was unaware of anything going on. I remember nothing between the first slice into my ankle (which didn't hurt) and the doctor saying "aaans now were done!"

Holy fucking shit I'm getting sick of our higher-ups, poking and shitting at everything we do, didn't say the right word, didn't send tickey at the right place, being fucking unclear, not to mention the retarded calls we get on the regular.

I still have lots of patience within me, and I know my employer will defend us sincr he disagrees with our client. At least I can relax and play Vintage Story on my PC or at the café.

I've basically never been able to stay close to awake during procedures where they put you under; they're always so early anyway that I'm half asleep already, so I just lean into it.

The little hole it leaves is really unsettling. What's worse for me is the tape that they use, ripping it off hurts way more than a bandage and rips a lot more hair out. And leaves behind more adhesive.

I have always been slightly terrified of exactly this, and I didn't even know doctors had looked into that. But I would think they'd be able to measure brain activity under anesthesia in experiments, and if the pain doesn't register like it would when awake, then I think it might be safe to say you really aren't awake.

I got some recruiter calls today, actually kind of hopeful for an interview this time. I hate when they reach out to you and then just ghost you after the initial call.

My work is being hit HARD by covid and at least 3 people are likely to die. So understaffed they pull me out from my department to go to the covid ward because the staff that was there.... got sent home with covid. I look in their sanitizer and what do I see? Plain water. For months I've had this issue: all these yahoo immigrants and black people they hire do not know the difference between cleaning and sanitizing. They'll mop up shit and vomit with plain water and then use the same water to mop the rest of the wing. Our mop heads are washable- but they never change theirs- it's turned solid black. They wipe all the tables with just plain water. And when they try to use sanitizers they think it's magic. I can't tell you how many times I've seen them spray Microban like it's Febreze. Or spray a squirt of Lysol spray into the sanitizer water thinking that works. And they think wearing gloves makes you immune, as they wipe people's asses and then hold their phones with the same dirty gloves.

It really has started to piss me off because this has probably directly contributed to people dying. We've had SO many mandatory training videos but it doesn't fix anything- everyone just hits play and walk away. It's not my department so I can't do much about it.

I think in my case, it's trauma to the vein as it was red and swollen and bruised for a few days. It's getting better but it's still painful and there's still light pain in the vein from my hand to my wrist when I move my hand too much or bend it.

Was told to wait and watch for the next two weeks because blown veins usually recover within that time. I wonder if it was because they blasted the hole with a quick but painful saline flush.

Do they not smell that? I mean, I think when you clean that stuff, you just get used to it but has it never occurred to them to put two and two together?

More importantly are there no higher-ups to pull them aside and be like "Hey, use this here and that there"?

Maybe I'm just assuming much but you'd think they'd spot a correlation between inhumanly unsanitized conditions and people being subject to infections, then illnesses, then death.
