How are you doing? - Kiwi Farms Wellness Check

I hope it’s not a fluke.
I dunno, Fluke makes pretty nice meters.

I've gotten tired of sanding drywall so I'm going to pay someone so I can do the 'fun' stuff like finishing assembling my CNC router so I can cut some panels for a retro-thingy I'm making. Of course I bought a CNC router and then promptly replaced most of the elctronics so I'm spending a bunch of time rewiring stuff and replacing wires with shielded, etc. Well, and yard work, and house electrical, really anything except drywall and paint which I suck at.

Got an early birthday present - a possible leukemia diagnostics.

It just bums me out about my mother and my animals, and that I might not be able to see the day of the rope, but overall I'm not that bothered by the prospect of fucking off the circus.

I usually have my deadly cocktail for sleep issues:
  1. A nice chamomile tea
  2. Melatonin supplements
  3. Two benadryl pills
  4. A few drops of CBD weed oil
When i take that, I go straight to sandman.
What if I substitute the tea for a benadryl? And the melatonin for like four more benadryl? And I don't do thch/cbd/any sort of thing like that, so like another three or five more benadryl? That might work.
I like sour cherry juice but not as a specific right before bed thing but a daily thing. It contains natural melatonin so don't overdo it if you use melatonin right before sleep. Regular consumption of it is associated with better sleep quality.
I actually love sour cherry juice, but I've only ever found it at this one lebanese shop. I didn't know about that, I will definitely look into it.

In the U.S. we now have pretty cheap options from things like Warby Parker where you can get your prescription, and have it filled for much less than at an actual glasses shop like LensCrafter. That said I recently massively overpaid for a pair of Ray-Bans with transition lenses that darken in response to sunlight so I don't have to carry around a pair of normal glasses and prescription sunglasses everywhere. My justification was it wasn't that much more expensive than just buying two pairs, one of each kind.

I considered getting the full George Romero type but decided I don't want to look like a complete lunatic.
If you've saved yourself the energy of not having to fumble between two pairs of glasses, it isn't overpaying.

I need glasses with lens that flip to different prescriptions like the eye exam machine does. I am very near-sighted, and in the last 2 years I now also need glasses for close up :'( so always have them, plus sunglasses, even with contacts. And if not wearing contacts, I keep like 5 pairs of glasses at hand - for driving (I like super-sharp vision driving), normal, computer at work, computer at home, variations depending on the day for some reason.
I had to put my beloved dog down on Monday. I knew it was coming but goddamn. I am not a weak man but these types of losses always take me down hard.

KF members that read this, do me a favor, please. Whatever pets you have, if you can, hug them and tell them how much better your life is because of them. Give them a treat or do something nice for them.
I'm so sorry.

You want progressive lenses. "Computer glasses" are increasingly popular, where the prescription is optimized to give you central vision focused on how far away a computer monitor usually is. It's not something that the online glasses stores are going to offer though.

I'm envious of all the glasses talk lol. My lenses are about 2/3rds an inch thick. Safe to say I put them on first thing in the morning and take them off last thing at night. Contacts never worked for me.

I haven't gone to get my eyes checked in a while (though I probably need to), do they not do that anymore? They don't get the air blown into their eyes while the optometrist gets annoyed that you have to redo it twice? Fuck. Between this and the dude at work who didn't know what the A/V cable plugins were for I'm feeling old. :(

They still do. I hold my eyes open when they do that.

Shit day where not a single thing worked out as it should have but i am not too bummed out. Just one of "these" days. Was at my plug's house (as the cool kids call their dealer now or so i heard), didn't get to cop because he got let down by his guy so in turn i got let down, no biggie 'cause i haven't been using in 1 1/2 months by now, i can wait some more. I got the operation coming up next month and then it's three months of sobriety no matter what.
Spent some time playing with his dog, it's a cute, little mutt that looks like a mix between a fox and a wolf, bit smaller than a Jack Russel. Highlight of my day, really, little doggie loves me.

Jesus Christ, man. Whiplash-inducing sentence. Judging by your post you seem to take it like a champ.

Isn't that the shit where spiders crawl out of the walls if you dose too high?

Explain this picture to me. This is your field of vision? Do you actually have the black edges like on the left one?

Mine is like this:
63d67534-1e2b-4d19-b6ee-9d5eab917ba2.jpeg
Not as pronounced as in the upper left but close to it and the lower left is almost better than how i currently see subtitles on my 60" TV that's like 3m away from me :story:

Edit: Nevermind, i am a dumbass. That's just the test thingie they do at the optometrist in your picture, right?

Yes, press your eye against a little tube, stare at that picture, and it shoots a puff of air directly into your open eyeball. It's really hard to not blink.

I wish I could just drop all my medical stuff. I always have these phases: I want to just go "nope" and stop with all the tests and treatments and copays. I wouldn't feel this way if the doctors actually "made me feel better" but it never works out like that. Like instead of a 200 copay to get an MRI that shows no changes, I could have had a nice dinner out with my friends and money to spare.

It would also be one thing if they could tell me 100% nothing scary is wrong with me, but they never do that, they only want me to keep coming back and spending more money. It just leaves me wondering why? Who exactly says I have to keep trying to find answers?

But when I stop addressing my medical stuff, I immediately start worrying about if I'm going to ruin my life or not live up to my potential by not trying to improve. I get panicky. I never envisioned growing up that I would have these issues. I still don't feel like it's a part of me. I feel like I should go to bed, wake up, and it'll all have been a nightmare. Maybe I need a legit support group, but I've never seen any support group that wasn't filled with absolute sadsacks- I want to move on, not focus any more on this stuff. I don't think "people like me" would be a good influence on me LOL.

Enjoy chill music mix.

Dying of hayfever again. Eyes just streaming all day. Antihistamines doing nothing. Feel like I've got a cold.
Speaking of immune systems; my work place is experiencing just enough little calamities lately that the arseholes have things to witter about and aren't starting drama instead. It's like parasite-therapy for allergies - give the immune system a little irritant to deal with and it stops overreacting to non-threats in ways that harm the body.

Lately, I'm indulging in the self flagellation of comparing myself to my friends and being disappointed I'm not more successful...
Then I look at my own standards and what I'd personally like to achieve as a human being and the abyssal chasm is even wider (which at least makes my concerns about keeping up with the Joneses pale into insignificance).

Late but: for anyone dealing with mould a 70% alcohol/water solution sprayed or swabbed on works best to kill it and stop it growing. Tapwater and a big jug of meths is cheaper than a lot of commercial products and no additives or fragrance. Won't get rid of the staining though, that's forever. Apply regularly if you can't improve ventilation/reduce humidity/warmth in the area to stop it going mouldy again. (And conditions that are right for mould are often right for insects, so look out for pests like beetles).

I’m getting frustrated with my work, so I decided to apply for nursing school after waffling on it for a few years. If I’m accepted, my job will pay for it. I’m anxious about going back to school, but it would be so satisfying telling my boss that I’ve got better shit to do, screw this shit I’m outta here, etc.

I am sick as a dog with an URTI (not COVID) and am very annoyed.

I had to be awake all day waiting for my telehealth appointment with the GP to get a medical certificate. It was supposed to be early this morning, but the clinic fucked up the appointment booking.
Everytime I called to ask "When will the doctor call?" - I got told "within the next hour".
I finally got to speak to the GP at 5pm.

I just paid $100 dollarydoos for a 15 second phone call to get a piece of paper.
Should have just done a statutory declaration 😭

I needed those delicious day naps to recuperate and was denied.
Now it's 5:14pm and I'm too wired to sleep.

What the fuck, don't you guys have free health care like we do? Seems like your healthcare system is working on the same interpretation of the word "free" as ours :story:
Are you German?

And yeah, welcome to what shitty neoliberal policies do to a country.

Hospital is free. If you're a public patient and it's not super serious - you will wait for a surgery.
Or you can "skip the queue" and get private health insurance (which is a scam propped up by conservatives)

Free ambulance depends on which state/territory you are in.

If you're super poor/disabled/old etc then GP visits are free. Everyone else has to pay upfront and you get about 40% of your money back.

TL : DR - think of a less shitty NHS.
That's Australian healthcare.
