It's weird that the trend now is for men to shave their heads fully when going bald.
Not a vote for combovers, but just keeping the existing hair to a sensible length and moving forward with your life was a reasonable option in the past, and looked fine. People didn't care unless you were an actor trying to play younger. I'm not in charge of cultural norms, though. Look at Richard Nixon: although problematic in other ways, he just kept his hair short, slicked it back and didn't think about it the rest of the day.
I also like how actors who are realistic about their balding can easily be de-aged for flashbacks by having Makeup glue an extra inch of hairline into place. I'm thinking about Bob Odenkirk and character actor Clark Gregg (in the Marvel stuff), but I'm sure there are more instances.
