how can i enjoy fish?

The fishy taste comes from trimethylamine which is produced as the fish breaks down after death.
It's this, proper fresh (even frozen) fish doesn't taste "fishy". It used to be more of a problem but even the tiniest shittiest indo-pacific fishing trawlers have freezers onboard now.

BTW cover your fish when you cook it in any way other than high heat frying. That tends to help it from getting dry on one side and rubbery through the rest of it.
 
I can't stand the "ocean" taste either. However, I've learned that flounder covered in some form of breadcrumbs or panko has either minimal or no ocean taste. It's a very mild flavor that goes nice with rice and a vegetable of your choice.
 
Fish only tend to be fishy when they’re not fresh, unless it’s trash fish then it’s always shit. I’d figure out what’s considered good eating in your local fishing spots and go from there. If you have access to them you can’t go wrong with Walleye.
 
Try mixing it up with some other fish salads if you like tuna salad. Salmon or sardines - also from a can - make for a nice salad if you add mayo, mustard, and a bunch of shredded veg.

Also, try anchovies and pineapple on pizza. The anchovies are oily and salty, and the pineapple cuts that perfectly with sweet acidity.
 
Lock yourself in a room with 300 tins of sardines and don't come out until you've finished them all. Problem solved.

I'm not a big fan of overly fishy, as well. I love saltwater fish/fishing, don't like to fish for/or eat freshwater fish. If I'm eating fish with an extra fishy taste, I dip it in cilantro cotija dressing. It neutralizes the fishy taste. Also really good as a sauce on fish tacos!

Some of the best fish I've ever had was some rock fish I fished myself down at the beach. I caught like 3 or 4 of them and fried them up with some butter. They were kind of boney but I swear they tasted like pancakes. As a bonus there was like 10 eagles down there fishing with me and all morning I got to watch them catch a fish one by one while the tide went out until by the time I left there was only one left still out there struggling to catch a fish in the low tide. That was one of the coolest little spur of the moment fishing adventures I've had.

Pollock is readily available at grocery stores, and not very fishy. I would avoid talapia, shit is disgusting. Grill your fish, get some good thick corn tortillas, and some mango pico de gallo, if you can find it. The cilantro cotija sauce on top is icing on the cake.

True about frozen but then defrosting enters the equation which impacts freshness, even in restaurants it isn't always timed correctly. A friend who was a lifetime seafood disliker recently changed their mind after a trip to Japan, eating something fresh caught is a big game changer.

Least "fishy" tasting fishes in no real order:

Halibut, Pan Fish (so Buegill, Crappie, Perch, Walleye etc), Cod, Tuna, Swordfish and I'm sure I'm missing a few others.

Salmon can be an acquired test but a good baked or grilled salmon is dead simple to prepare and cook and personally is one of my favorite meals, especially in the summer.
 
Salt roasted mackrel is very good with a bowl of rice and fermented veggies.
Smoking your fish might also be a good option if you want to mask some of the flavor.
 
Have you tried fried fish/fish and chips? That and having blackened fish helped me tolerate then like the flavors of fish.

As for the actual fish, white fish is rather mild in flavor, so cooking with that would be a good start.

ok non asshole advice?

Learn how to bake fish.

buy a nice fresh white filet of your choice, make a tinfoil tent and place the filet inside. On top of the filet place some of your favourite herbs, also fresh, (I like dill, tarragon or parsley). Next place some thin sliced lemon, fresh of course, then top everything off with a very generous layer of real butter. Then close up the tinfoil to trap the steam and bake until done.

The tinfoil will trap the moisture from the ingredients enhancing the flavor and keeping the fish from drying out. The fats from the butter will pick up the flavors of the lemon and herbs as it melts and flows into the fish again boosting flavor. All in all you get tasty fish!

Plus clean up is easy just toss the foil packet and your done!

I do this at least twice a week and it's simple and fast once you learn your preferred fish+flavor combos. Mix it up with a nice rice side dish or some nice root veggies like carrots that you've sauteed and glazed and you've got a dish to impress.

God Speed, learning to cook is a great adventure and a worthy hobby.

Walleye, bluegills, crappie, catfish and others are all very mild tasting fish that mostly take on the flavor of whatever dey seasoned with. Maybe try a Cajun batter, or some baked with butter and Mrs dash.
