How do you choose what to watch?

Is there a method anyone here uses to pick what film they watch on a consistent basis?
I have long watch lists I want to do, but when looking through them or on some streaming platform, I can't decide a lot of the time.
Do you go with a theme or whatever is in your personal collection? Mood based? Do you stick to one type of film for a while or just randomly choose?
It just gets hard to narrow down a choice after a while so I didn't know a decent way anyone else on here did for picking anything.

I hadn't watched a movie in 8 years until The Godfather picked my interest a couple years ago. And nothing else since either. You don't have to watch stuff. Do as you will, watch what you wish. If you even really want to. Same goes for games. If I don't feel like it I just drop them cold. Do as you wish. That is the one way.

Various sites will post simple memes that say “check out X” and give a little description. Namely IFunny and here.

Word of mouth is still king.

I'm there. I've been getting so bored with games and TV, I decided to just stop and quit half-assing my reading habit. Become unpredictable and chase whims harder.

Very rarely do I watch anything new or unfamiliar. Years ago I watched films constantly, especially classics, but kind of lost interest over time.

Nowadays when I watch pretty much anything it's a film or show that I saw years ago that pops into my mind for whatever reason. I'll occasionally watch something newer if it's tied in to a film I greatly enjoyed in the past, but it's rare.

I'm willing to give anything a shot if a friend recommends it. Even newer stuff. I pirate most movies and shit anyway. Lately I've just been going through IMBD lists and watching anything that looks interesting. I am very much a "judge a book by its cover" guy though. If your movie poster looks stupid good chance I will skip.

I make a watchlist, then just arbitrarily choose based on what my mood is and what looks cool. If for some reason I can't find anything I feel like watching then I'll just basically pick something random from outside my list at a glance.

By deciding not to watch anything at all. The frustration of keeping up with the latest shows based on office talk and my dislike for 99% of television has led my attention to creative pursuits.

I go to google and type in the genre I'm feeling like...drama movies -> year (preferably 2012 or before since things get rapidly sjwized after.) Then I scroll through the list of movies.

If I'm feeling like conducting a more expansive search I'll look through imdb.

I found that those youtube channels that do robo AI summaries of movies often choose interesting ones, even though they are otherwise a plague on the site.

Oftentimes I'll randomly come across or think of a movie that interests me just surfing.

I rarely watch anything from Current Year. Most of the movies I watch are ones I’ve seen before but haven’t watched in ages, or older ones that I’ve been meaning to check out but just haven’t yet. No real method to choosing one, just if the movie pops into my head and I’m in the mood to watch one I’ll check it out. I guess browsing streaming services like Tubi looking for anything that catches my interest would count.
