How do you guys toast your bread?

I don't think running the toaster is the point of the video as much as it is showing how hard an effort 700 watts is, and how difficult it is to sustain.
Yes they are trying to show how hard it is to generate 700W except the human body wastes 75-80% on heat so the power station has a huge advantage.

To make it a fair comparison they should give him a storage method or ask him to only generate about 250W. As it stands they don't care about fairness because they want the shock value.

If you had him charge a battery for 5 minutes and discharge it everyones' reaction would be "meh" even though it's the same amount of work.

E: At the end of the video they said he generated 0.021kWh but his FTP must be at least 350W which means he can generate 0.35kWh. They've done everything to make it look worse than it is.

I can't find any stats for his FTP but 350W is a really low estimate. TdF riders claim 400+ while being near underweight so a heavy track rider would be even higher.

With a flamethrower. Anything less is un-American.

I haven't toasted bread in a long time...

But back in the day I used a boring toaster. Like the ones in that After Dark screensaver, sans the wings.

How is that unfair? It's not the fault of the generator that it's much more efficient.

i like to threaten my bread with violence if it doesnt turn into a toast, so it do and then i eat it anyway

Untoasted on one side of the bread slice, blackened and charred on the other side. Harvey Dent toast.

I like my toast like I like my women: lightly browned and covered in melted butter.

Low heat with lots of butter on a fry pan. Comes out nice, crisp and flavoursome.

They're not comparing generators though, they're trying to show how much 700W is in more relateable terms. However the guy would have generated 2000W+ but it couldn't be converted to electricity to show in their experiment.

If you guys aren't cyclists then you probably don't know how it works but your FTP is the average power output you can hold for an hour. Go even a little bit over and your muscles will fill with lactate and you can't keep it up. Stay a little bit under and you can go all day. This experiment is designed to send you well over the threshold where you will fail even though the human body can generate 10-20 times more kWh than required to make toast (40-100 times more if you include the waste heat).

It's like doing the "ton of lead vs a ton of feathers" experiment but actually using a ton as the comparison point and claiming a ton of lead is heavier because you couldn't fit a ton of feathers on to the scale.

They probably don't realise it but they're also arguing against power sources like hydro, solar, and wind which all require storage to be reliable.

Bread? Lightly browned in the 3$ toaster I got from a rummage sale.

What you think my name is referring to? Only the finest wood fired brick ovens.

Toaster.

I craved toast for about a year after I got out of the military because the toasters they had never worked. They took a dry slice of bread, trundled it down a track, and gave you a slightly dryer piece of bread at the end.
