How does Amazon Prime prevent OBS from recording videos?

I used to be able to record movies from Amazon prime using OBS. Then, instead of the video, I get a black screen in OBS. Audio is fine. THEN, Youtube started doing the same thing for their "Youtube Movies." I can't record them or download them. So, soley as a technical question... how are they making the video unavailable to recording applications? Is there a way to disable this functionality? (Obviously I can watch the video with no problems, I just can't record it)

I thought HDCP was mostly being hamfisted into hdmi?

Hmmm.
I had some rented movies and tried them.
It worked for me.
As to a download manager, it might be with how they handle the URL.

Yes, on browsers the technology is EME and it's part of the official "open" web standards - which caused the EFF to rage quit.
