Since i'm non-US, let somebody explain me how courts in United States works

In my country (Poland) maximum probation length is 5y (if prison sentence is not longer than 1 year); is it possible in US situation like convict got 2y probation, got arrested again and will be released after 25 years (since probation got revoked)?

Are you in any way related to @FuckYou ?

Anyway, we have 50 states, 51 if you count DC, all with their own laws, plus overlapping federal laws plus underlying local laws, county and township for example.

The common man in 2018 America needs a lawyer to conduct business, settle any matters bigger than who pays for dinner, virtually any big decision really because of how complex and convoluted we have made it all.

It simply ought to be the case that all you need to know about US law is the constitution. But they don’t even teach that in law schools anymore....

any way, I can get it some crimes are in state jurisprudence and some are in federal jurisprudence, but is it possible to happen situation like probation length < prison sentence length after prob. revocation?

I'm not sure what you are getting at, but I will take a shot.

Yes. Your probation term can be longer than your actual jail sentence or even time spent in jail.

For example 5 year jail term, with maybe some time suspended, and 10 years probation.

You have to remember though that jail terms can be variable.

That five year jail term could be a range of 5-25 years. So if you violate your probation you go back to jail.

So, it's normal like in Poland and shit like 5y probation & 10y jail is impossible, right?

I updated my post to cover what I think you are asking.

I'm not quite sure if you can be held past those 10 years though. That's for a lawyer to answer.

I don't think you can be as the combination of jail + probation should be the end of your sentence. It's why we put people on probation and threaten them with 10 more years if they screw up again.

thanks for explaing bud

Ladies and gents, let me present you the
US judicial system:
  1. Obtain lots of money.
  2. Hire expensive-ass lawyer.
  3. Get outta jail.
  4. Spend rest of money on coke
  5. Get inna jail again, beacuse you can't afford lawyer anymore
System will work in other "civilized" first-world countries as well.

FTFY

America is the only first-world country to still use a bail system. Pretty gay imho.
