OPENING POST: If its short, the topic probably won't last long. Most of the time though its an essay that comes to a point... eventually.

FIRST PAGE: Mostly shitposts with a few genuine responses. In many cases the thread ends here.

SECOND PAGE: Still shitposts but this is where its getting out of everyone's systems and serious discussion begins to occur.

..... BEYOND THAT: It starts to go kinda like this:

"Hey, I have a really extreme POV about this topic!"

"Your view is kinda extreme, don't you think?"

"Well, maybe...." [poster might be seriously thoughtful and willing to entertain arguments] "But I still think I might be onto something."

"I mean, some of what you say has merit, but drowning the rats in chicken soup isn't the answer!"

"I know, I sympathize, but you gotta think about the children!"

At this point one of two things happen:

FIRST SCENARIO ` "Out from Under the Bridge, Setsuna in the Moonlight"

"Hi, I'm a new guy, and I think you should stick your dick in the rats before drowning them!"

(The new guy doesn't enter, instead we rejoin the guy who likes drowning rats in chicken soup)

Yes for a lot of multi-page deep thoughts topics they can follow a predictable pattern, but that's because there's a specific kind of sperg who's into arguing online enough to come back page after page, usually with a specific set of spergy preoccupations.

That makes it convenient because if you browse in private the "new" threads section just shows deep thoughts, happenings, and mass debates instead of an endless stream of gay.

Yeah, she got really mad and just let it all out one day, knowing full well a ban was coming. I still managed to communicate with her for a bit after that but now she seems to have disappeared from the Kiwi sphere entirely.

Just as well, seems like it was making her miserable.

I basically agree, just with the caveat that tradition should never supplant or dominate logic. A willingness to be reasonable should always be in the driver's seat.

I think of them as co-pilots, logic is fine and good but human understanding is limited, consider concepts like the law of unintended consequences and Chesterton's fence.
