How Fucked is the Third World, Really?

I don't see anything changing for the third world anytime soon. They are doomed at the moment to remain poor until white people decide to colonize them again or some revolutionary movement happens that allows their economy to flourish like never before. But even then, they will still be poor. Just less so.

Clean tap water is an exclusively West European, East Asian and Israeli phenomenon. I genuinely cannot think of a third world shithole with tap water that is safe to drink unless you count some parts of the US.
I been to South America, tap water was fine except in the coastal areas, specially the beaches in Brazil where you should always drink filtered or bottled water. Heard its pretty bad in Bolivia but then again they are the Mexico of South America (Mexico is technically in North America, hence the analogy)

The biggest problem with the developing world is that they are in a post-national world at a time when they need nationalism.

You are a talented man in Nigeria with a good idea. Why the fuck would you stay in Nigeria? If you were a 19th century European there was a pressure to move to the USA, but most had a strong nationalism that made them stay to build their own country.
An NGO worker will never replace the dedication of a person that lives in a place and wants the best for it.

The reason I ask is that I read this essay a while ago, titled "What's So Bad about Being Poor" by Charles Murray. His basic argument was that being first-world poor sucks not because of an inability to buy things, but because you inhabit a social milieu made entirely of people who are too retarded/criminal to earn a decent living, which is otherwise pretty easy to do in America. Therefore, even if poor Americans still have it pretty good in material terms, an urban ghetto is still a worse place to live than some backwater farming town in Southeast Asia or something.
This is pretty much true with exceptions. I would much rather live in a dirt poor village in Yunnan, East Timor, Bhutan, or Mongolia than in Chiraq, Compton, or some other shithole ghetto. If you live with people who are criminals and deadbeats life is meaningless, depressing, and dangerous. However, I would rather live in the fucking ghetto than India or the Congo or some other shithole. And at this point its basically about the race of the people. Asians can create a more of less functioning society even if it is alien. Arabs, Persians, and Moors can too, I wouldn't want to live there because of the constant geopolitical conflicts and wars that go on. But if we're being transported back into the zenith of the Ottoman empire or something where there's stability, sure. South America is a similar situation - the drug wars and cartels just make life there a brutal hell. But if they got their version of Mao Zedong stringing up the drug traffickers for a couple years, sure. But just like I wouldn't want to live in Arizona in the Wild West days, I wouldn't want to live in the Middle East or much of South/Central America today. Indians and Africans simply cannot create a society that any white European would feel comfortable living as a minority in, and even the shittiest American ghetto is nice by comparison.

Ultrafucked.I mean its been like 55 years and our power grid is not unreliable especially when you have Bright Experts like this in charge of the Power ministry. The Power Grid failed 12 times in 2024. Also the current dude’s economic “reforms” are so terrible, GDP per capita is at $800, NGN/USD went from seven hundred and something to like 1600 to a USD, the customs were more interested in revenue rather than reduce their duty rates, food prices soared badly and the government promoting gas-powered cars, subsistence farming and this really new retarded idea where they stop importing things for “home-grown” products-they did this with solar panels some weeks ago.

What most pisses me off is people romanticizing Third World nations because not only they like to romanticize poverty, they really think people feel genuine happiness living in some low-trust society where you earn peanuts for a living, currency is corroded by inflation, it also ain't worth shit, there is also chronic unemployment, corrupt government and rampant violence. First World folks think people living in some slum town with cartel activity are living life at its fullest. Fullest danger and misery, that is.

I really don't know why the fuck some tourists become enamored with living in some shithole country. They usually say it's the "beautiful landscape" but I suspect sex tourism is the answer.

Also, First World people like to complain about shit being expensive and are deluded by Dollar/Euro purchasing power thinking everything here in is cheap. Any gringo who lives here and earns his living in the local currency will instantly realize things here are expensive as fuck. I'm talking about average wage being US$ 545/month and the cheapest brand new car here being US$ 13371 (and I'm talking popular ones), most recent iPhone model being US$ 713, being able to retire at best with US$ 900/month while you have the social caste being on the other extreme when it comes to income given the effects of income inequality here.

You think food and rent is also cheap? Oh, do I have some news for you.
it's all one big mega cycle and anyone in any possible position to change it has either been corrupted and has no reason to do so
Even if you go and try to change things and report every kind of corruption you see you'll have a price on your head because you'll be dealing with a literal mafia and every office is a snakepit.

Speaking of luxury, imagine being rich in a third world country. There wouldn't be many world-class restaurants you could go out to or amazing experiences you could have there.
It really depends on what third world country. There's plenty of high end restaurants and luxury good stores in Latin America, the Philippines, hell, even places like Pakistan have malls that would not be out of place in the First World, but once you start hitting places like the Central African Republic, Afghanistan, or Somalia, there's just not enough middleclass/rich people or tourists to have those amenities.

Really, what determines third world status isn't whether there's decent stuff around, but how much of the populace is poor, and how godawful it is for them. Most poor in the First World still have access to electricity and running water.

Hmmm...

Would I rather; A) Live in an apartment complex relatively comfy, even though I do get by on expenses and work a job I hate while occasionally dealing with a presidential tyrant or two while still able to retain some levels of freedom or B) Live in those shack-stacks and feeling not only hopeless, but directionless as well with a government that gives zero shits about everyone and everyone is looking out for themselves at your expense? Huh...

You can make that whole Europe. I was surprised when I found out US tapwater is hazardous.
The European standard for Total Dissolved Solids is 1000 ppm, the EPA standard considers anything over 500 a problem. Imagine being a Eurocuck.

Also before the last 100 years and white people dragged them out of the stone age. Most of the world were barely better than cavemen.

The difference between the Ghetto and some backwater third world shithole is the comparison to its surroundings. The ghetto is PERCIEVED as more of a shithole because its typically surrounded by a "nice" first world society, which only enhances how shitty it is.
One could argue that the "ghetto" is shit based on the actions of the individuals there. Meanwhile, some third world shitholes can make the most of their circumstances.

A friend of mine who owns a large farm in Brazil, always tries to get me to visit him. He. just shows me pictures of giant **** anacondas that just kind of wander around the farm. They just picks up.

But one of the most disturbing things he ever told me is, if you don't pay some 1 of. some one doesn't pay him. They just kill each other like they're just say, take his son out back and shoot him Very disturbing.

Things that go on in Brazil and No. no one likes Lula if you are wondering He only wins elections by being corrupt.

Unlike the first world in most third world countries outwards expressions of depression and sadness are not cool, most consider it a sign of weakness. Complaining about your miserable existence will only get you ostracized in a place that like you say its already very low-trust, so everybody just pretends things are fine. Meanwhile in the first world people have weaponized depression, in some circles you are an out of touch weirdo if you're not burning money on a therapist to talk about your non-existent problems as part of the upper class of a rich country.

Come to think of it the only sad music I've ever heard from a third world country is Tango, and it wasn't that sad.

That and that if they do remote work or have savings they get to live relatively large. I know people who went from living in a studio apartment smaller than my garage to a house with a pool in Mexico during the whole digital nomad bullshit. Most Americans never had a maid, meanwhile practically every middle class family I saw when in South America had a maid, some even a live-in maid. Its funny what we consider luxury varies from place to place, like in some South American countries like Brazil people would pay out the ass to get into a gated community just so they could walk outside at night, something you can do in practically any American town that hasn't gone completely to shit. All those first world "expats" (because for them calling themselves migrant is so low-class) are really gonna miss that when they get kidnapped by a gang and tortured until someone gives them money, and sometimes they kill the victims even after getting the ransom.

I'm very well aware of that since I'm from a Third World shithole myself. Funny thing is most people from these countries deal with these problems by abusing alcohol and/or drugs. Suicide is very taboo in such societies but you have people slowly killing themselves through booze and dope habits while saving face displaying religiousness in a very shallow and often predictable way.

At the end of the day I think Third World people are way more hypocrite when dealing with depression or other mental issues because most try to roleplay as some happy-go-lucky or optimist but anyone who lives here is able to see the facade which is a very poor one BTW. That's why I think First World people get impressed easily.

A properly functioning sewer system and water system are taken for granted these days. Secondly I would say waste management. If these stopped working in the US, it would get really messy and gross fast. NYC in the 1800s was filthy. It still is but I mean like dead horses left in the road, food and waste just dumped out into the street. Thankfully the US never had to deal with street shitting but it wasn't pretty.

The Thames used to be an open sewer that it stunk all the time much like the Ganges. In 1858 a hot summer cause all the poop and industrial waste to smell horrific in London. Parliament was shut down for a few days as well. So bad was the smell from the Thames from untreated waste that the king had to create a special position; the kings herb strewer whos job was to leave herbs and flowers in the palace so make it more bearable to breath the air.

Another thing that the third world lacks is an efficient, effective postal system. Ive sent things to odd corners of the world. If a package gets sent to a turd world country, its a crapshoot if it gets there. Sending it out to rural areas is a no-go. Mail theft and corruption are rampant and customs is not fast at all. The work ethic of state employees is mid. You can leave some money in a package and hope the customs officer accepts the bribe and lets it through, but that becomes expensive and its still unreliable as the postal worker can still steal it afterwords. Airtags and small trackers have helped but that adds to costs. It hurts the citizens as no one will do business in those areas. Why send something where its going to end up stolen or lost in transit?

The US was lucky to have someone as autistic as Ben Franklin be the first postmaster.

Talking about your depression (real or fake) has been making its way down for years, specially ever since it became yet another way to get out of trouble and/or source of free pity. You can see it in this very site how even rednecks now talk about having depression.

Not the same, samba is mostly happy music, have you seen tango lyrics? its all about poverty, women not wanting you, corruption, how the world has always been shit. Don't let the tunes fool you, the most upbeat one I remember was a song where the guy was basically singing about how it would be like the day some woman somewhere would finally like him, which in reality its quite a downer when you think about it.
