Yeah, I'd stick with the beer and wine for sure. I've never had a single good experience with hard liquor but plenty of great ones with beer and wine.

They can be plenty strong enough for effects but it doesn't have as high an addiction potential as hard liquor...alcohol is like most other drugs in that regard, the more pure and concentrated the more risky. IIRC, delerium tremens and other forms of severe alcohol withdrawal were basically unknown in medical literature until distilled beverages became cheap and common in the 17th century.
Fuck it's concerning that there are people out there (hopefully none of us are one) that could drop dead a day or two after going cold turkey because their body is so dependent on the diesel juice.

Is it addiction when you get home from work on a hot day and you see that cold beer in the fridge calling your name and you can't resist sculling it down.

Alcohol is a sorry, stupid way to waste a life. The idea of
dirty men with large bellies hungrily slugging down their canned piss water is a fucking existential horror and i forbid every one of you esteemed fellows from engaging in this grotesque behavior.

Have a good scotch around the holidays and leave it at that.

last year I was back upto over a bottle of whisky a day, I'm doing that dry january this year and it's been going well but I'm out for a meal tonight and it's gonna suck not being able to have some wine with it

I'm saving a fortune and losing fat though so it's been good for me

Never - I used to be a alcoholic but sobered up just under 3 years ago now, at my worst I was caneing a 70cl bottle of Rum or Whiskey a night (and far more at the Bar at the weekend) and I only drank after I finished work for the day.

I'm not one of those ex-alcoholics who can't be around booze or brings it up, when I get invited for a night out or the pub after the days done I go and just stick to soft drinks, and I got given some wine recently I just passed it on to my family, but the smell of booze close up makes me puke a little now so I'm not even tempted to drink.

The good news is it's let me reassess my life and move in a direction I am more than happy with and gave me time to enjoy life more, nights I'd be sitting on my own pounding a bottle I'm now either making something, reading, writing or drawing, out fishing or walking etc.

Depends on how I am. I got these odd genes where I can drink a shit ton before actually getting drunk and Vodka relaxes me and doesn't get me angry. at max though I drink maybe 2 bottles or 4 shots. Usually after I sit down on the couch or relax in bed and possibly cuddle up to my husband.

A cocktail every friday night (We head over to a friend's or host them at our place every friday). Normally one on Saturdays in the fall if the dawgs are playing. Maybe a drink during the week after the kids go to bed and the wife wants to watch a movie after 8. A light beer on sunday with dinner if we're eating BBQ. So 4 drinks on a heavy week during football season, but normally just 2

You want to know?
From my spreadsheet in which I autistically record this, and including THC as "drinking," I calculate about one fifth of all days whether I measure over the past year, half year, quarter year, or month.

Drinking any amount is not the same as getting drunk, but that's actually really fucked up, I thought it was a lot less over the last three months.

Can I, as a cultural Pentecostal, just celebrate a yearly Purim by getting so drunk on wine I have to be hospitalized with alcohol poisoning?

2.5 years sober currently...was drunk from the moment I got up until the couple hours I passed out every day for a year before that though. Put myself through outpatient and smoked weed any time I felt the urge to drink in the beginning stages.
Do you have any issues with weed? I started experimenting with THC and CBD. CBD seems to be somewhat effective as an antidepressant and anti-anxiety medicine but it doesn't fix everything by itself. THC (ingested) seems shitty and useless at doing anything but zombifying me, and I trade physical agony for mental fogginess, but you can't think when you feel sick so it still comes out the attractive option. But I definitely don't want to vape (don't trust it from a health point of view).

I work at a liquor store, but I honestly don't drink too much imo. I do want to try lots of things, so I buy some of the single cans of beer to try or a bottle of something here and there. But I usually just drink a can of cider twice a week and a shot or two of liquor once a week. Maybe some wine a couple times a month. The stuff I buy kind of sits in my garage fridge and piles up. So I look like an alcoholic, but I'm not more than "average" in practice.

Maybe when I get my own place and can set up a tiny little "bar" and get my friends to help go through the stuff.
Anything interesting about the customers? I've seen statistics on alcohol purchases that suggest it follows something like a Pareto distribution, where most people don't drink or drink only a tiny bit (mostly beer), and then there's some whales (alcoholics) that buy massive quantities of it, and it makes the illusion that the average American drinks moderately. So figure a disturbing number of liquor store customers would be "regulars."

i drink for the taste, so when there's something cool looking on the menu or at the store

A couple of glasses of a local brew every couple of weeks at the one bar we have left here and always with food. It's actually pretty decent and is relaxing. Pretty much stopped doing any alcohol for getting drunk.
