How old is too old to learn to skateboard?

I know some people who have been skating since the OG days in the 70's and still keep up with it, you just have to be a LOT more careful about the effects of eating shit on the pavement. One of the jokes I've heard from a skater friend is that if you Google "learning to ollie at 50" it just gives you a list of orthopedic surgeons. I'm 100% in support of anyone learning to skate, longboarding is a good option if you just want to cruise around and don't care as much about tricks. That's what I was doing for a while, I haven't rode in a long time but I want to get back into it. It's fun as hell and makes you feel pretty accomplished when you learn.

If you do, you are probably too old to start skateboarding. If you don't, you're going to wish you did. One of those catch-22s.

There's no age limit, but you're gonna fall and bust your ass on concrete as you learn, and you can snap back way easier from that as a kid than as an adult.

I'd say the maximum age is 35. You might get away with it at 25, if you have a young-looking face. Roller-skating seems like it would be more age-inclusive, though.

I don't think skateboarding culture really cares how old you are in order to be a skater. As long as you have a genuine interest in it and aren't in it for social cred like a poser, than anyone can skate.

Was on the cusp of sponsorship as a teen, and decided to buy a setup again during lockdown some 15 years later.

Bizarre actually, as my brain remembered what to do, but I just couldn't retrain my body to do it. My best 'comeback' trick was a kick flip, or maybe a 360 boneless.
