How should we deal with gangs?

you deal with prison gangs by imposing permanent solitary confinement on every inmate in every prison and jail, no exceptions.
basically the only human contacts a prisoner is allowed is with guards and other personnel working at the facility. under no circumstances can contact between inmates be allowed to occur.

Why waste resources on feeding and housing when you can just finish them off?

Gangs generally come about because of a lack of real economic opportunity. If your some fucking hood rat, you know you are fucked in the job market, so you join a gang to engage in organized criminal activity for money. In most places, this means selling drugs.

While I would probably get some laughs watching these gangs getting rounded up, placed against a wall, and shot, another group of gangs would just take their place.

You got to get these exceptional individuals some job skills that don't involve selling drugs...however that won't happen until the men of certain demographics start raising their damn kids...and I have no idea how to make that happen.

If this was true then why do gangs pop up even in economic prosperity? They have no desire to contribute and they are too dumb. Kill them off so they don't produce more hoodrats. Violence runs in the family.

I would have a lot less problems with gangs if they were all more like the more entertaining 1970's pre crack wars gangs. Watching a documentary on 1970's New York gangs like "80 Blocks From Tiffanys" is like watching a real life version of The Warriors.

Military checkpoints, extreme revenge for every slight with shotgun targetting precision, strong media offensive to sap their support and bulldoze their houses and build your own.

Oh and get funding and military support from the strongest nation on earth.

I like the Daenerys approach to dealing with problematic segments of society.

On a more serious note, I take the approach (though realize this will never be implemented anytime soon) that the only real way to "stop" gang culture for a time is fear. They need to fear what the authorities will do to them more than the gang life can appeal to them.

Everyone takes calculated risks each day. A young man might be willing to risk several years in jail for tons of easy money, but would he be willing to do that if the punishment was execution? I doubt as many would.

More than that, I think expanding the range of punishment could work too. Deadbeat Dad doesn't care when his spawn does crap, let's make him care by seizing property monetarily equivalent to what his spawn damages. Make it work in reverse too; your kids could be withdrawn from school and or/expelled from college if you offend. You could be damn sure this would bring about some keener eyes on what the family community are doing. If they're not born in the territory, deport them as well to boot.

I've always said they should roll this approach out to terrorists, it works just as well for gang members too.

On a more serious note, one of the big things underpinning the power of the street gangs are the prison gangs. The prison gangs are often the ones who call the shots among a lot of the major street gangs, and they are a major reason why the American prison system is so fucked up and actively making the crime problem worse.

The prison system and the drug trade are the foundations of all modern street gangs, and a lot of the black gangs also have the dynamics of the post-Johnson welfare state and "hood" culture actively harming the economic potential of the black community and fostering the growth of gangs.

Honestly, ending the War on Drugs and enacting major prison reforms would go a long way in combating the gang issue.
