Look for discovery sets or buy travel-sized versions of scents you think you might like before committing to a $60-200 bottle. It'll be easier for future shopping if you can pick out which notes you like in colognes or perfumes and remember them. For example, I'm a whore for jasmine, so I tend to try out scents with that note first.

It'll save you a lot of money and create less waste in general if you care about those things.
