If you hate the new shitty feature like me and think its fucking horrendous to have youtube turn more into pornhub everyday, you can use these literal 3 lines of code to fucking remove it, though you need a css extension. (I just use that one go choose another one if you think im advertising)

You can do this with any other feature you dont like, just write in the name of the div class and voila
Code:
.ytp-heat-map-container {
    display: none;
}

so i.e if you dont like the video but still want the audio fuckin go remove like idk 'html5-video-container' go crazy

Also yeah note that its computer only I dont think you can do it in the in-app version unless you use a 3rd party version of it like whatever that ad-free one on android that everyone uses is called

What is most replayed? Are those the tags up top or is it something I haven't triggered yet?

it looks so fucking irritating, like no I dont want to see the "hot spots/most replayed bits" of a video I just want to watch it normally, only instance I see this being useful is if its a movie and you're looking for a specific scene or if a tutorial guy takes far too long to get to the point but you could always have people adding annotations like they used to on videos, but hey it got removed, and we also give you no option to disable this shitty feature because fuck you!!

Use Sponsorblock then. It has tangent and highlight segments you can submit, plus it saves time skipping through sponsors, intros and those meandering Patreon outros.

It's so insane to me how modern day Silicon Valley is so against people having a fucking choice in how to use their product. Instead of toggling on whether or not you want to see this useless shit, you have to see it all the time. They also forced Google Plus on everyone before that shit bombed and they quietly let everyone unlink their unused accounts. Meanwhile, for things people actually want, like annotations, they take that shit away without any user input or any questions asked.

I know there's no real competition to Youtube, but this still begs the question of why? Why is choice so bad to techbros?

I thought that was sound.

Just use yt-dlp and its built in features to get exactly the video exactly how you want it. It isn't perfect, but YouTube-dl is shot, so you can't be too picky.

This literally only shows up when you have the mouse over the play bar. That's it. That's all it is. What is the problem? Do you always watch your videos with the mouse hovering over the play bar?
Yes, I genuinely do, besides why not add a toggle? Its a piss poor job and also hurts content creators because people will scrub through the video much more, lowering their average watch time.
I think this can actually be useful, for example when you want to find the exact moments of action in a shooting or fight video.

But here, let me reduce 3 lines of code to 1:

CSS:
.ytp-heat-map-container{display:none}
thx, I slept through my IT classes
Pros: easier to skip to the better part(s) of a largely shitty video

Cons: ?????

Really don't see what the problem is
No option to turn it off, bugs my eyes, and potentially hurts content creators more than it helps them like I mentioned above, Lowering their average watch time because people will consume even more copious amounts of media and have an even shorter attention span overall. Just scrubbing through the "hot spots" to get their high and leave. (like what Vine used to and now Tiktok does) Good for you if you want to use it but a fucking option to disable it, like is it so much to ask you know? Im not 100% against the idea of it just the fact that it isnt toggle-able, or else yeah sure I'd use it time to time to find what im looking for in a long tutorial video and not scroll to find a good samaritan in the comments too.

I use freetube now of days so I didn't even know this feature existed.

Google rolls out features in waves towards users, I don't have it either. I have the new super-shitty title/description crap, I don't know if everyone has that yet.

edit: for anyone curious about the interface I'm talking about, I only see it in Chrome so far.

Thing is, if you hover your mouse over the "most replayed" segment, it will now only show the timestamp of the beginning of the segment, not where your mouse is actually pointing. This is really annoying and there is no way to turn it off (not that I know of at least).

CSS:
.ytp-heat-map-container{display:none}
If you hover over the "most replayed" segment it will still show the words. Here's how to remove them (and keep the timer height consistent with the rest of the timeline):
Code:
div.ytp-tooltip-title:nth-child(2){display:none !important;}
.ytp-preview:not(.ytp-text-detail) .ytp-tooltip-text{top:33px !important;}

I still miss my email notifications, it was their most stable notification system.
Their RSS notifications are a crapshoot at best, usually not warning me if a streamer's gone live until 20 minutes into the stream.

how the flying fuck does google manage to keep making youtube even shittier? they add autistic "features" like this yet removing dislikes which is way easier to look at when finding tutorials than scrubbing through the video
but you could always have people adding annotations like they used to on videos, but hey it got removed
remember the "discussion" tab on channels? that got axed and it's impossible to interact with channels without any content whatsoever now, youtube feels less like a social media platform but rather a theater show which only the big guys succeed and you only can support them, you can't even personalize much of your channel anymore because you're left with only basic channel layouts and links but that's really it. i am still suprised there is still not a way to message other channels because that used to be a thing and would make sense for nu-tube to add that now
