How will Facebook die? - RIP G+, Orkut memories

Facebook and to a lesser extent google are both going to die once governments start to bring in the inevitable regulatory hammer. So far they have been working with out any real regulations or consumer protection acts. Once those come in i think they are fucked because they might start to lose there income and no one will pay to use these sites.

The website will probably dwindle away to nothing and die quietly in a few decades and everyone will say "I had no idea it was still even a thing" just like AOL messenger.
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative on the other hand is probably here to stay for a good few generations in one form or another.

The only way I see Facebook dying anytime soon is through too many massive scandals. Normies may not care about their information getting stolen, but the government is starting to notice.

I don't think it will die. Facebook is the most popular social networking site because it can be used easily by anyone and their grandma. There have been much better social networking websites however unlike those social networks, Facebook has a cleaner look and is quick to get an understanding of how to use. The only way Facebook would die at this point is if (((Mark))) decides to shut it down.

Facebook won't die. Not while there's entire countries who's internet packages revolve around access to it for everything, including the news.

Seriously. I think it's Thailand, or some other shithole where you pay for access to Facebook through an ISP, and all other traffic is either throttled to shit or blocked entirely. There are literally millions of people who's entire perception of the internet is what Facebook tells them on their feed.

I think @Null knows more about it.

Even if some manner of regulatory action drives it out of the first world I think it'll still be an active force for a lot of places like the Indias and Thailands.

AOL instant messaging shut down a year ago.

Friendster shut down in 2015.

Myspace is still around. So is live journal.

I don't think facebook is going anywhere without some kind of massive scandal (that does not involve misuse of customer data, no one cares about that for some reason).

When/if someone invents something better, it will die quietly and slowly

I doubt Facebook is going to die anytime soon unless like what everyone above already said they get into a massive scandal that will effect their reputation or something better comes around and be more popular than Facebook and then it will die a slow death.

Other sites like Myspace also had a big presence, but Myspace wasn't used by your mom (unless she was some youngish white trash mom) The difference with Facebook is that it's used by "everyone"

MySpace is still used by a few weirdos into weirdo music. I think. Best thing about MySpace is MySpace Tom roasting some random jackass who said he was a failure, though. I chuckled at that one.
