CIA only cares about rigging elections in developing nations. TPTB rig the election by buying and/or coercing both candidates preemptively, it literally doesn't matter who wins.

There's now no way he could ever lose a fair election after that assassination attempt (won't be the last as copycats will feel emboldened), so when he still loses people will have no choice but to see the scam this system is.

They still won't do anything about it, but yeah...
