Clock Tower was inspired by Italian giallo horror. Even Classic RE has some aesthetic similarities to the films of that genre.

When they do this, they can usually get the original uncensored source material, and that's what they use if at all possible.

Yeah. There've also been instances where the distributor ends up having to redraw the censored bits because of stuff like this, and sometimes it ends up looking absolutely atrocious. Colors don't match, framerate's not right, camera panning or zooming reveals there are separate layers and they're not moving together correctly, etc.

And then sometimes they'll end up publishing an "uncensored" release that's actually been censored in other ways. It still cracks me up how the US release of La Blue Girl (very explicit for its time) was completely uncensored, except for a three second bit where the protagonist grabs her comic-relief sidekick by the (clothed) dick to wake him up fast. Why? Because he looked like a kid. Never mind the fact that he's just a midget and is actually older than the protagonist. What's even better is that they left all of his other scenes and dialogue intact. He spends most of his screen time ogling, hitting on, touching, licking, fingering and trying to fuck anything that moves. He's present in a lot of the sex scenes, too. Never actually gets laid, but that's part of the joke.

So the international distributors have weird issues of their own as well.

If you're talking about the ransomware site using Tor, then yea, Tor is shit when it comes to download speeds. I was lucky enough to post what I could.
