Hundreds of Owen Wilson fans, or just curious passersby, gathered in Melbourne yesterday to just shout ‘Wow’ in Owen Wilson’s famous style.
If you hadn’t noticed, Owen has said the word in a range of contexts, inflections and tones during his illustrious movie career and it’s become quite the meme over the past year.
So much so, a bunch of Aussies found it appropriate to spend a good few minutes in Federation Square saying it in unison in celebration of Owen and his apparent bewilderment at, well, everything.
His ‘wow’s span his flicks from The Darjeeling Limited, to Wedding Crashers and You, Me and Dupree and now the people have spoken – Owen’s ‘wow’ is here to stay.
Wow.
But trust the Aussies to come up with something so inane and unnecessary, but at the same time, feels so right. [note: writer is an Aussie (wow)]
The event’s organiser, Nicolas Zoumboulis, told The Independent that he gathered the throng of fans in order to try and spread the love and good vibes.
‘Ultimately I just really want to put some “positive energy,” as Owen likes to say, out into the world,’ superfan Zoumboulis said. ‘In these times I think something as silly as getting together and saying “Wow” can have a positive effect and I’d like to see everyone come together!

‘If I can remind people that this world we are lucky to inhabit is beautiful, and to embrace that like Owen does in his movies by saying “Wow,” then I’ll be happy.’
And if you’re now not saying it in your head over and over, what on earth are you doing with your life?
