Hell yeah. If you haven't read it, you owe it to yourself to read Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 - classic HST tearing apart the stupidity of politics and tilting at the windmill that was Richard Nixon. The Great Shark Hunt is a good read too.
I'm pissed that the last volume of his letters is seemingly never going to see the light of day. The first two volumes came out in 1997 and 2000, and the final one still has not been published. There must be some serious skeletons waiting in that closet. I've had it on my Amazon wishlist for years and years, and every 12 months or so the publication date gets kicked back another year.

I'll be beyond shocked if it actually comes out next March as advertised.

I'm a huge fan of his. The Rum Diary is may favorite behind Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I listened to an audio book of Fear And Loathing last month.
I was amazed at how the film Fear and Loathing was so true to much of the book's content. Especially how much of the dialogue was lifted straight from it.
Although the biggest change I noticed was the recorded scene toward the end of the book is different in the film. In the book it's a bit of dialogue with a person at a drive through. In the film it's actually a more disturbing scene where Gonzo threatens a waitress high off his brains.
I actually prefer the film version of this scene oddly enough because it reflects a bit more self awareness of the characters.

True fact about the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: In 1997, Johnny Depp actually moved in to Hunter's basement for about four months to study his mannerisms, and go through his notes about the trip. Then, just before they started filming, he had Hunter S. Thompson shave his head with a straight razor so he's match Hunter's natural male-pattern baldness.
If that's not crazy, then I don't know what is.

Depp also mentioned he read some of the original manuscripts and there's a lot more disturbing parts to Fear and Loathing that Thompson cut out of the novel for the sake of cohesion.
