Why do you think so many cows have an aversion to bathing and basic hygiene? Discuss.

I can't believe we don't have a thread about this yet. Apologies if we do and I missed it in my search.

Some of them seems to have a genuine fear of water (e.g. Ulillillia). Others have that sensory idiosyncrasy associated with Aspergers: they might hate the feel of wet skin or clean skin. Some (like Pixy) might associate showering with authority figures, or with taking control of their own life, which they're deathly afraid of.

But most of them are just lazy and/or socially clueless.

They've no time for anything that doesn't directly provide gratification. Showering is going to be like getting a job or running errands: no fun for the autist mind.

Depression can also lead to poor hygiene.

My theory: Hygiene becomes part of social acceptance when most people hit middle-school. (I'm sure this is mainly due to the fact that middle-school is right around when people start to develop serious body odor.) by the time they're adults it's basically habit. Cows don't understand social cues, so they don't really get that initial pressure to form the right habits.

But that's just a theory.

Funny you mention that. I personally hate being dirty. But that's just me, considering how many of our "pets" seem to ignore it as a whole.

It also gets harder to smell yourself. You get immune to it. And what's worse, not wearing clean clothes that contributes to the smell.

Here here. I HATE going without a shower. The worst was when I was in the hospital and I had to go a week with only sponge baths. I was going nuts.

Lack of stamina, in some cases. I know people that find the act of taking a shower physically exhausting, and they have to lie down on the sofa after one.

I think I know why some of the fatter cows don't keep clean.

When you're a fat bastard, cleaning yourself changes. You have a wider area, and lots of folds of skin to scrub under. When you do that, you're accepting that you are fat.

-Low self esteem leads to not caring (lots of cows are incredibly psychologically fragile)
-Skewed priorities (Every second in the shower is a second you're LOSING internet arguments)
-Laziness (I got to GET UP from my computer? Again? I just did that HOURS ago!)
-Denial (If I don't look in the mirror/inspect myself I don't have to admit what a wreck I am)
-No meaningful consequences for NOT caring (Lack of real-life relationships and no real "boots on the ground" time spent in public society means they never encounter peer pressure to clean up their acts because of their odor/condition

Never gave this one a thought. It may come down to the people they associate with. If their close friends or family practice poor hygiene they are most likely to follow suite.

I would go so far to say that some cows don't bathe because they were subjected to one or more unwanted baths as a child after they were caught misbehaving at home or in public. This is probably more the parents' faults for using a bath or shower as a punishment instead of teaching them that practicing hygiene on a daily basis is a good idea. Hence, the lolcow might change his/her behavior and not act out at home or in the supermarket checkout lane, thinking that if they behave, they won't be told to go take a shower, no matter how filthy they get, or how bad they smell.

Other than that, it's all the reasons given above: laziness, low self-esteem, obliviousness, prioritizing their favorite pastimes over keeping clean and neat, etc.

Personal experience from when I was a lolcow which is still relevent: its literally the autism. It takes me literally hours of prep to even get ready to shower even on a good day.

Considering how many lolcows are autistic *gestures*

also yknow not showering can be considered edgy or whatever too

I think that it is probably the powerleveling. Lolcows are so exhausted from powerleveling constantly that they lack the energy to shower afterwards
