I know 386 Pokémon and cannot forget them no matter how hard I try.

Life is full of important things, and Pokémon is not one of them.

Til this day as an adult I would see a Pokémon and my head will be like: Milktank, Swallot, Gligar. Like how the fuck do I know all these names. I would scan through the list of Pokémon from the first 3 games and know ALL of them, all 386 of them.

I don't know how I feel having all this useless information in my head when it could be filled with useful stuff like quantum physics.

How can I replace this useless info with important stuff?

I know the entire 898, their typing, base stats (or at least an aproximation), movepools and competitives niches.

And that franchise is not even top 5 of my autistic obsessions.

You have almost infinite space for useless informaiton in your brain, don't worry.
I wonder if OP is one of those pseudo pokemon masters who think Golduck is a psychic type.

I know Pikachu and that turtle guy. Also Reshiram because JustinRPG.

But as other users are saying, you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. If it wasn't Pokemon filling your headspace, it would have been something just as stupid, or worse.

(could you imagine people growing up knowing 386 gender and sexuality defintions, that they can't forget no matter how hard they try?)

Take any piece of information you wish to commit to memory, and "assign" it to a pokemon. When you think about that pokemon, try to think about that new piece of information alongside it. Replace all the pokedex entries you know with your chosen new factoids, and let them work their way into your head. This should make it easier to remember non-pokemon things, I hope.

Useless shit is my forte ias well, and I fucking mean it.
I remember more shit about homestuck than the "experts" that leave hours long video essays and the peopel literally hired to write the sequels seem to but you don't see me complaining. It'd be cool to be able to retain actually useful info, but the memory of funny webcomic with child death, slimer, and fucking johnny 5 f all things as a running gag that had a stretchy storied merch pushing downspiral due to clickbait induced popularity spike is at least a funny thing to look back on. Sucks that the people behind it have been completely swallowed by twitter politics save for like 2 or 3 of the guys that contributed to the music albums. This shit has literally no practical usage aside from remembering a funny. Same goes for a lot of dumb internet funny shit I've seen over the years tot he point some of it's memory holed now as it died and got wiped from existence before it could become forced shit.

I also know like the entirety of nightmare before christmas and jesus christ superstar's scripts. Like not immediately "ah yes I can write them down and know where to loook for thing" it's more like a weird innate feeling and knowing of where and how and when things are said and able to one man re-enact that shit poorly. Same goes for sonic adventure but to a lesser extent. Just weird cutscens and quotes with no order.

If we're just talking about names, though... I know a fuckload of the fucking my little pony charactrs names despite never watching the damn thing due to cultural osmosis and witnessing degeneracy online.

...I also know like at least the first 150 pokemon, plus a shitload more. Icould tell you what they look like, too. Not so much on some of the more recent pokemon. I am int he same hell as you I guess lmao.not just the fucking pokemon though the fucking LORE of the god damn games I've never forgotten. the human characters and the fucking pokemon jesus fuck there's a lot.

I need some rest so I'm gonna be a bit lazy and just abrubtly stop shit here, the idea of just knwoign so much useless shit, it's something complex in terms of feelings.

I stopped keeping track after Gen 4. There's too many now.

I don't think I ever sat down and studied it hard either. I just "passively absorbed" the names and types.

So if you constantly expose yourself to a subject of interest, maybe you could "passively absorb" without studying too hard?

Try memorizing all the monsters you can stack on your head in World of Final Fantasy. Chocobos, foxes, baby behemoths. Pretty sure there's a baby dragon you can throw into the stack.

Is it useful outside of a coffee shop AU? Maybe if you need a laugh.

That's only good for rote memorization. For any area of study you pick, you could certainly learn to regurgitate large amounts of information about it by 'passively' looking at it a lot. But as far as actually being able to use that information for something, that takes time spent studying or practicing and you're not just going to learn it by osmosis. Going back to the pokemon example, you can spend a long time look at pokemon learning what all their types and abilities and moves and stats are, but that's not going to prepare you for competitive play and you would be destroyed if all you knew about it is what you learned from looking at it. That's how any subject is going to work.

Do you know so much that you reach a point that you can write down the 386 Pokemon correctly (or at least mostly correct) on a piece of paper in order according to the National Pokedex without looking, or just when you look at any Pokemon you can recognise it along with its name?
